I think this is also the same guy who was going around to a lot of boat
shows and handing out pamphlets + having planes fly around pulling
banners etc..
For some reason I think he had one of those "SunSeekers" and had
purchased it used.

It says Detroit Diesel on it?? GM hasn't owned Detroit Diesel in a
LOT of years! Why would they buy an outside contractor's diesel when
they have their own in-house. Your GM diesel, like mine, wasn't a
Detroit Diesel, I don't think. DD is owned by Penske, isn't it?
Well you made me look :-) I can't see where it has anything stamped on
it with the maunfacture. But you might check out
http://www.62-65-dieselpage.com/
That contains this information:
Designed as a diesel engine from the ground up by the Detroit Diesel
Division of General Motors the original 6.2L diesel engine was
introduced in the 1982 model year GMC and Chevy C/K truck line. Taking
this engine design to the next level in the 1992 model year, the new
6.5L diesel engine was an advancement in technology, and was designed
for the application of a turbocharger. The 6.2L saw it's final year of
production in 1993.
