I have had a Donzi Z-29 for that last 5 years (it's now for sale), and
bought a Formula 402 last fall. The Donzi was (is) a good boat, but
I'd have to say the Formula is better built.
My personal opinion would put Baja at the bottom of your list, Sonic
and Donzi in the middle, and Formula and Fountain at the top (although
I've heard newer Fountains may not be as good as they were). Just an
aside, I've neve heard a Formula owner who didn't like his boat.

I would put the boats in the same order. I have a Formula 252LS with 454
mag. 61 on GPS. You can go faster in a Baja, but their is no comparison in
quality of construction. I had a Baja 208 before the Formula. Not even
close. Fountain is fine in bigger sizes, and very fast, but the ride is
hard. For my money I would never buy anything but a Formula. The other 2
that I would put on top are Hustler and Outer Limits. Very fast, and well
built, but limited production, and expensive. Remember to look at loots of
things before you look at the top end of the boat.

Tony,
What is your primary usage? What are your requirements? Speed, Comfort,
Overnight use, Rough water performance?
In this range I'd also look at the Velocity 26'. It's as big as most 28'
boats since it's measured to the Transom and not the swim platform and
the performance is exceptional. It's fit and finish is now excellent,
not as good as a Formula but every bit as good as the others on your
list.
I have a 26 and I love it. I overnight on it, do poker runs, jump 5
footers just for fun and in general have a great time.
Here's an example of the value from the Miami Show.
'98 Velocity 26
7.4L (454) 310 HP (65 mph)
$49,900
Add the few options that finish off the boat like the swim platform and
it's around $51,000
Add $5000 for the 454 Mag (385 hp) and go 72 mph!
Add another $5000 ($10,000 total) for the 502 Mag and go 77 mph!
Find another true 26' 3" boat for $49,900 that goes 65 mph, uses a racing
layup schedule for strength and perfomance and has all the amenities for
overnighting in relative comfort.
They also have a 24' for $39,900 that's a 70 mph boat and a 32' for
$84,900 that's a 77 mph boat in stock configuration.
Just my opinion......

Well, all the boats you listed are worth checking out. Since I own a Formula
i'm a little partial to their products. If you're strictly into speed and
rough water performance and only ocassionally go overnight I would take a look
at the Formula 271 and 312 FASTECH models which have new stepped hulls. Their
build quality is top notch as is the attention to detail. The downside of
these boats is the limited cockpit space and cabin accomodations.
If you want a sleak looking fast boat but would enjoy a larger cockpit
and below decks accomodations then check out the 280ss and 330ss Sunsport
models. I own a 330SS and its a great boat. I has a 10 ft beam with lots of
cockpit space. The ride is excellent (but not a true rough water boat) and my
boat will do an honest 56mph on GPS with bottom paint. Below deck theres 5'7"
of headroom, a dinette/v-berth which coverts to a bed, microwave, fridge, and
head. I've had no problems with my boat so far.

The boat could weigh a ton and still do 74mph with a new 502 Merc SORRY
