I am considering purchasing a Crestliner Angler 1600 powered by a 50 HP
Honda (tiller setup). Does anyone have any thoughts as to the top speed
that could be expected with this setup? Total weight of boat and motor
loaded with two people and gear would be about 1800 pounds. Would similar
performance be expected from all 50 HP -4 strokes? (Yamaha, Mercury, etc.)

Would this motor at minimum idle result in a boat speed slow enough for
effective trolling, or would an additional kicker motor be required?

Thank you for any responses.

Top speed is a guess of around 35 mph. This is based on an old boat my
Father-in-law has (16' aluminum w/ 60 johnson).
Similar performance should be expected from any 50 4-stroke engine.
At minimum idle you should be able to troll no problem.

My boat is a Tracker PDV17, 50 Merc 4 stroke.

Top speed (GPS) that I have ever seen is 33, normal is
between 31 and 32. Trolling speed is about 3 mph, your
Honda should idle a little slower than my Merc. So I would
guess yours would probably troll at around 2.0 mph.

I had a Honda-50 Four Stroke on a 17-ft center console. On my 17 it was a
bit under-powered. Top end was about 25 mph, and at the time I thought I
should have gone with a 60, the max the boat was rated for.

However, the Honda 4-cycle is wonderful. No smoke, only danger is trying to
start the engine when it is already idling as it is so quiet.

Can't go wrong.
