I'm trying to remember if it was a 898 or a 989 mercruiser small block
V8 in my uncle's Peterbourough grand prix 20. Do both exist? Is it a
small block chevy or Ford? 350 or 302? Any help appreciated...How old
might this boat be???

Best Regards... ... Sugar

I have the 898 and it's the 305 Chev V8, it's a 1978, don't know how
long they used this model.

I had an Mercruiser 898 (198 hp/305 cid Chevy) in a 1980 Wellcraft. Was a
good engine but I believe it was just has heavy as the 228 (228 hp/305 cid)
and 260 (260hp/350 cid) with less HP.

I think the 898 stood for "8" cylinder and "198" HP. And was usually a 305 GM
motor. Some where around mid 1980's mercruiser went to the "alpha" drive but
still used the same engines.
