I think i will take about $1500.00 of that money and upgrade my
Crownline even more. Then I will buy a nice 3300lb. boat hoist, and then
possibly take the wife on a nice vacation.
Your comments or information on any of the above would be much
appreciated........................

soon to be a new boat owner
GOOD LUCK AND SAFE PASSAGE
I don't know anything about Mariah's, but if you finance any new boat on
the very common 10-12 year plan, you will be upside down on the loan for
years.

Fill us in on the rest of the deal. What boat model where you looking to
buy and what did they want to sell it to you for? It is not uncommon for a
dealer to make you a very nice offer for your trade in, if you are willing
to pay top dollar for what he is selling. It is no secret that car dealers
do this all the time.
I was just at the Phoenix boat show this past weekend, and I took a look at
the 18' Mariah with the 4.3v6. They wanted $16,400 for it. Since I was
not looking to buy, I didn't start inquiring as to how flexible they were
on the price. But when taking into consideration, that a new one costs in
the mid $16k range, would you pay $13k+ (assuming the dealer has to make
some profit) for a two year old Mariah with 317 hours on it? Personally, I
would buy the new one in this situation. In the deal you describe above,
it looks like the dealer would not make anything off of selling your used
boat, so they must have been making a nice piece of change off the new one
you were looking to buy.
Also, the Shabah is one nice boat!

Actually, you are half way if not all the way correct. The Donzi dealer
was very unreasonable when it came to negotiating his price and was
quickly forgotten. However maybe due tto the fact that I am a repeat
costomer the Mariah dealer came down 2 grand on his Z202 Shabah, and did
offer 13,000 for mine in trade. I'm sure he's still making money
somewhere along the line, but it still sounds like a good deal to me.
My only point is that I totally can not believe that Mariah would have "
the worst resale value " of anything out there. I've seen alot of them
on the water around here, and a few on the used lot. They look like they
are standing up to the test of me pretty well, and I couldn't be happier
with mine.
However, due to the increased prices Mariah has brought along in the
past two years, Crownline will get a very serious look before I do
anything. I can only hope they make me an offer on my trade like the
other dealers did, but even if they don't I'm still 100% positive I am
not in a situation where I would have negative equity.

It sounds like the Mariah dealer made a better deal than I would have
expected. Also, if your state is like Arizona, you will not have to pay
sales tax on the value of your trade. Here in Phoenix, that would amount
to @ $900 savings in sales tax on the new boat.

I agree. I haven't looked at the N.A.D.A Boat Appraisal Guide recently,
but I find it hard to believe that a boat as nice as a Mariah has the worst
resale value.

When it comes time to upgrade my Bayliner, I will be looking closely at
Mariah, Four Winns, and Crownline. I looked at a Crownline a couple of
years ago at the Phoenix boat show and really liked it. Unfortunately,
there is currently nobody in Phoenix that is dealing Crownline.
Any thoughts on why there are no Crownline dealers in your area, and why
Mariah is jumping from dealer to dealer.
