As spring/summer approaches I find myself with an interesting dillema.
I have been offered a boat that, to say the least, is a fixer-upper
that needs some work. The problem is that it seems to be a boat
manufactured by a company (IMP) that appears to have disappeared off
the face of the earth. I would like to know about the quality of their
boats, perhaps get my hands on some of the wiring schematics and just
get as much info on my hands about their products before I get my
hands "wet".
Anyone ever hear of them, where the ended up (brought out by someone
else) or know where I should commence my search?
Thanks,
John
Good Luck

IMP is alive and kicking. Saw their 310 Viper at a show recently. They are
still made in Iola Kansas and their top dealer is www.raymondsboats.com down at
lake of the Ozarks. They have a lot of old IMP's that they sell parts off of.

I think the original company went out of business along time ago!
I have received quite a few e-mails from a company wanting to sell me a
discounted IMP at MFG cost?
Would you want to buy a boat on the internet, sight unseen?

The original IMP (Iola Molded Plastics) went out of business in 1990. their
MIC was XMP. The company was sold at auction and revived under the name
I.M.P. (International Marine Products). Their sales manager was known to hit
the nose candy and ran the company down enough (recession didn't help) that it
again changed hands and is now run as IMP by Sea Environment. Their factory
number is 316-365-5197. Sales offices are in Belton Missouri but I do not have
their number.
Raymonds Boats and Motors at Lake of the Ozarks has been their largest dealer
and has quite a few of them that he has taken in on trade and stripped for
parts. Lake of the ozarks summer weekend lake traffic has grown to the point
that anything less than a 24'er bounces around like a rubber duckey so older
16-20' boats get parted out since they have no value on that lake. You can
e-mail them for parts requests.
