I am trying to find information on a boat my grandfather's company (Shepherd
Boats) built in the late 1930's called Miss Shepherd. I have been trying to
obtain information on this boat for the last 5 years without any luck but
today I received an email with the following information
Miss Shepherd raced in the 135 class event at the 1939 Gold Cup regatta at
Detroit. She came third in the first heat and fifth in the second heat to
finish fourth overall. Her owner/driver was Percy Buddell of Waterloo,
Ontario.
The program for the Gananoque Regatta of 1948 says that Buddell (who was
then driving a D class runabout) " Hasn't missed a regatta since 1936. Wins
not infrequently. Claims 'only record is for breaking pistons'." I assume
that this means Canadian regattas. The best possible source for information
on Canadian regattas of the late 1930s would be Boating magazine (later
called Canadian Boating), originally published by Hugh C. Maclean, and later
by Arthurs/Franklin. Unfortunately, I don't know of any library in Canada
that has a full collection of this publication, or any holdings at all from
the 1930s - and I've checked with the National Library of Canada on this.

Does anyone know how I can find more information on this boat? Is there a
place that would have records of the 1939 Regatta or any other info on this
boat or of Mr. Buddell

My two favorite sites that have the absolute best on racing history around are:

www.lesliefield.com
(Hydroplane History Website)

and

http://www.thunderboats.org/
( The Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum)

Also -- there is a world of links on the History links section at
http://www.hydros.org/links.htm

Have fun and good luck!

The internet is such a facsinating place. Someone on another list posted this
response to this person asking for information about his grandfathers boat,
Miss Shepherd.
