Kayak experts:

I've just been fortunate (I think:) enough to buy a used
kayak for $125 (with a nice paddle, spray skirt, helmet,
life jacket, etc.)

I've never heard of the manufacturer (Seda), and was wondering
if anyone could relay any info about them to me.

The kayak is about 13', fiberglass, symmetrical/traditional
hull, and weighs about 35 lbs. It looks fairly old. The 'lip'
of the cockpit (that the spray skirt hooks on) had separated
in the back -- I glued it back with some PC/7 epoxy (it looked
like it had been repaired twice already with some clear-colored
stuff in the back, and some cream-colored stuff in the front).
Gray-colored foam has been wedged vertically in the front and
back to add support.

Thanks for any info!

Seda made alot of boats when plastic wasn't on the scene--they also
sold general paddling equipment. I would guess that they were pretty
common, particularly on the racing scene in the 70's, and early 80's.
They made really pretty boats, esp. a S graphic on the decks of some
boats. I think they may still be around, but can't say more than
that.

They're definitely still around. I have the impression they're more into
sea touring kayaks than whitewater, but that's just my impression.

Seda is still in business. There store is in San Diego CA. and the
manufacturing is done accross the border in Mexico. They have a
wide selection of Sea and whitewater kayaks and canoes. The Viking
model is the one used by Ed Gillette for his long trips along the
coasts of N and S america. Check Sea Kayaker magazine for their
ads which have the addres and phone numbers. The boats I have
played with are all of excellent design. The manufacturing quality
control is the weak link so I would not buy one unless I saw and
tried it first.
