Tricky, I own one but I've only been out in it twice (I think).

Definately a boat for the larger paddler, being hard chine it behaves
like a hard chine boat (i.e. tracks reasonably), in fact the few times
I've used it I've just thought of it as an Anas Acuta for someone my
weight (rather than the Anas Acuta which is awash when I'm in it!).

I guess I should really arrange to get mine out of my old club boatshed
- if it's still there for me!

BTW, if the boat you are considering is orange and has my name on it let
me know because I haven't actually abandoned it and I am planning at
least one trip next year....

I posted this the other day, or so I thought, I must have sent the
reply straight to the sender, here goes, lets try again.

Why have you just bought one then?
You'll have to find some old beardy sea kayakers who remember
them, AFAIK they were an chine hulled boat manufactured in the1970's
I'm sure some one will have fond memories of them.
Craig.
P.S. FWIW I am not old (under 40) don't have a beard and have
no real recollection of a Sea King. (not to be confused with the
Sea Tiger wich is a good example of a horrible pig ugly boat)
had to get that in just for Richard, He'll read it but may be too
ashamed to reply.

Despite what Operating Raleigh may say (see: Fancy Chile in January
post), I am not old at 42!

I have one in the garage and have used it for a number of multi-day trips (outer hebs, uninhab islands). Its a hard chine full load expedition boat that even tracks in force 5 wind agin tide conditions, turns well by presenting either side of the chine. Carried bottle of lead under seat when using it empty as otherwise too high on chine and v unstable. It's a full load expedition boat.
