I am a beginner and $$ are a factor since I have a limited budget. I
would appreciate any input.
I have also looked at the Dagger Vesper and Necky Kyook but don't find
them as good a value as the Spectrum S.
Thanks,
Two weeks ago I was in the same situation. I went to Jersey Paddler,
in Brick, NJ <http://gramercy.ios.com/~paddler/>, where a very
haelpful fellow named Patrick told me that the better choice for me
would be the Wilderness Systems Sealution.
Well, I have been in Jamaica Bay, Rockaway Inlet and in some pretty
nasty water around the Brooklyn Beaches and this boat is a dream! If
you want to see a picture of it, go to my web page
<http://www.webcom.com/sasohn> and then you can follow the link in
the photo to Tieken Kayaks (Harrie Tieken designed the boat).
I am new to sea kayaking and this is a boat that, as Patrick at
Jersey Paddler said, would allow me to grow and continue to be
challenged while being very stable. Highly recommended boat. Not
much more than the Spectrum.
Email me if you want more info.
Good Luck!

My wife and I have been paddling Spectrums (not S) around Barnegat Bay
for 5 years. We bought them at Jersey Paddler, they've always been very
helpful. I would agree that nastier water or a little more speed would
suggest looking at some other boats.
