Its a bit embarassing to post this, but some friends have asked me to
arrange a private Deso/Gray trip for this summer if possible. Once
upon a time, I would instantly know outfitters, shuttle drivers, gear
whores, cooks, etc for pretty much any stretch of river in the
American Southwest, but I've been out of that world for too many years
and doing other things..I'm sure most of my contacts have moved on or
away, and regulations have changed.

So can anyone point me to a good resource for a 'painless private'
outfitter on Deso/Gray? Seeing as how aging replaces agility with
wealth, I'm looking to rent a fully-rigged river trip; rafts, food,
IKs, shuttle, etc...minus the on-river support. (I can still row a
boat, set up camp, cook a meal and read a line.) Also, I guess I need
a refresher on how to arrange a put-in date.

Thanks, from this old (and getting older) timer. Railtramp, I suspect
you might have some input here?

Permit Process: http://www.blm.gov/ut/st/en/fo/price/recreation/riverinf.html

Basically the permit is obtained by calling in 5 months ahead of the day you would like to launch.
This can be an exercise in speed dialing.

List of Utah Outfitters: http://www.utah-adventures.com/utah-river-sports.htm

For shuttle driving,I recommend Desolation Outfitters.

Kind of terrible thing ettiquete wise, but checkout the Utah Rafters group.

Yahoo Group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/utahrafters/

It is a searchable Yahoo group. Most answers can be found there.

Tackless self promotion: Now if you need an extra boat/boatman, I could help you out too.
