Beginner needs opinions on buying kayak

I'm new to kayaking - have done it a couple of times - once river, once ocean.
Live on the water north of Boston, and EMS is having a 20% off sale. Thinking
about buying two Perception Aquaterra Acadias (one each for wife and me). Sale
price is $400 each. We'd like something we can use to do coastal stuff around
here, and something we can cartop to camping trips on rivers in NH and VT.
Since I need to buy two of whatever, and we are beginners, thought this was
fairly inexpensive way to go to start. If we get better, then I'd think about
trading up to something better; more specific. Any comments or advice from
anyone on this approach/choice? Also, is color a safety choice - yellow being
easiest to spot for boating traffic and/or emergencies? Thanks in advance for
any input.

I've been looking into a second boat lately, and the Acadia i've
considered as well. Have also been looking at the Necky Gannett, and
the Necky Santa Cruz. I wouldn't really be taking these boats on the
ocean. On rivers up to class 3 and lakes are what i consider ideal
for these.

I purchased a pair of Acadias in March and have been very pleased with
them. They are very stable, track well, are not too heavy to portage
or to load onto roof racks by yourself, and have a cockpit that is
easy to get in and out of with a modicum of grace. $400 is a great
price and, for occasional use or for beginners, is practical. No
sense spending more than you need to get started on the water!

Color *is* an issue. The blue boats cannot been seen well on a busy
lake such as Sunapee, or on a busy river. We were almost run down by
shells on the Charles River in Cambridge. Stick with yellow, red, or
white.

Let me know when you get your yaks and we'll have an Acadia
Convention.
