This is a HONDA 9.9 HP FOUR STROKE outboard motor, Model no.
BF9.9AMLA, Serial Number 1206497.
I bought this unit NEW from Kingsland Reach Marina on November 21,
2002. It had been sitting in their showroom for a few years. They
first told me it was 1999 model, then later, a 1997. I called American
Honda today to find out for sure, and they told me it was shipped to
the dealer in 1997 and that Honda does not put model years on their
motors, per se, but that it would be considered a "1997" model.

The dealer completed the warrenty papers for me and mailed them to
Honda on 01-17-2003, so here's the kicker (no pun intended) - the
Motor is STILL UNDER WARRENTY. It has a 24 month warrenty that IS
transferrable to the new owner. Contact Honda Marine group for more
details.

But the main thing, this engine is like brand new. It had never been
used when I bought it, and I've only used it 3 times, as an auxillary
motor for my old boat. As it turns out, the main engine on that boat
never failed us, and we rarely had to use this motor, except for
trolling and testing. We used less than one tank of gas on this motor!

I recently sold the boat here on eBay, so I no longer need the motor.

It is a FOUR STROKE, so there is no mixing gas and oil, and it is more
environmentally sound and QUIETER than a 2-stroke. It does, however,
weight about 100lbs, which does cause shipping concerns.

The Postal Service will only ship up to 70lbs. According to
www.UPS.com, the shipping cost from Zip Code 22308 (my zip code) to
Zip Code 13035 (Syracuse, NY) would be about $72 with insurance.
PLEASE CALCULATE SHIPPING COSTS BEFORE BIDDING using your favorite
carrier and your zip code - and be sure to figure in insurance. I will
deliver to anywhere in a 100 mile radius of Washington DC, free of
charge.

The engine comes with a small tool kit, including a spare spark plug,
rope starter, and a flush adaptor, along with small hand tools. We
used the engine in salt water (Key West) but religiously flushed it
after every use for several minutes with fresh water until the engine
was fully warmed up. We also waxed it after each use.

It is like new, and as you can see in the pictures, the engine is
clean as a whistle. There are a few very, very small scratches here
and there, but nothing major, and no dings on the prop or skeg.

It comes with a gas tank (2.5 gallons?) that has a built-in fuel
gauge. It also includes the fuel hose, of course. We ran it three
times, each time to no less than 3/4 full, so it has not even burned a
full tank of fuel yet. It is LIKE NEW!

This is the model BABL ("L" model) - it has a 6A battery charger
circuit, and includes a charging plug that plugs into the side of the
motor. Just run Red and Black wires to your battery (an in-line fuse
would not be a bad idea) and it will charge your battery as you go!
Great for a sailboat or for charging a small battery on your fishing
boat.

I specifically bought it with that idea in mind, so that if my boat
batteries went dead, I could recharge them with the Honda (and also
get underway). Fortunately, the need to do this never arose.

There are three shaft lengths listed in the owner's manual. This
model, the BABL (the "L" model"), has the intermediate length shaft. A
spec sheet is shown below. It does NOT have electric start or remote
control.

It's a great little motor - runs and starts easily! Comes with a
tiller extension.

Any questions? e-mail me at rober...@erols.com

Good Luck and thank you for bidding!
