The Nor'sea 27 is the best 27 for offshore passagemaking.
I just returned from the factory and the quality is the
best I have ever seen. The problems that resulted from the
luxury tax recession of 6 years ago are over. They also have
a 37 footer called the Nor'Sea 37. This,like the 27 is also
a Lyle C. Hess design.(his last). The 27 and 37 also come
in Kit form as well as complete boats. I can see that after
17 years in business the quality is great. The voice mail
for the boatshop is (714)489-8227. ALSO they are building
another line of boats designed by Lyle C. Hess called
Montgomery. A 17 and soon a 23 to be called Nor'Sea 23 offshore
Cutter.(next year for the 23 they tell me). If you would
like any specific information just email me and if I can
be of help, I will.

In case anyone is interested,

There are two Nor'Sea web sites up and running. There is also a newsletter for owners. There is also two
movies made about them by owners. And, a GREAT book by a man who sailed in one for three years with his wife,
two doughters AND mother in law! If I had not met one of the people, in person, he talks about in the book, I
would have said it must be fiction.

The web sites are:

My wife and I are living on a Nor'Sea 27 in the SF Bay area and loving it!
It IS a BIG 27 foot

I'll second Greg and Jill's estimation. DH and I have been sailing a Nor'Sea
for 10 years and love it. Seakindly and -very- solid. Never had the least
doubt about sturdiness of the boat. Martha Beth

Without doubting any of the above, what do you say to those who
claim that the Nor' Sea 27 suffers from excessive roll?

Very solid, fast downwind, and VERY tender. Consequently, yes, plenty
of
roll downwind, not fast upwind. For a strong 27 footer that will stand
up to more
canvas and go upwind, have a look at Orion 27 or something similar with
a bit
more beam.
