I've thought about contacting Ted Gozzard and may do so. He was the
designer and left Bayfield Yachts to open his own yard in 1984 and has
produced yachts very similar in appearance to the Bayfields he designed -
clipper bow, carved trailboards, etc.. They are simply called Gozzards.
If you want to see a real beauty, run a web search under Gozzard and go
to Jan's Yacht sales in Wisconsin or Gilman Yachts in Florida: one of
them has a 1994 44' Gozzard listed for sale with a picture and the other
has Gozzard 36 with picture which looks simply like a bigger version of
the Bayfield 25. I did see one recent reference to him in connection
with another boat builder, so he may not be running his own company any
more. He is, however, very well regarded from what I've read.
If you still have the address of guy who sails a Bayfield 25 on Georgian
Bay, I would appreciate receiving it by e-mail if you feel free to pass
it along. My understanding is that there are many Bayfields on Lake Huron
since that's where the Bayfield company was located (Clinton, Ont. - and
very close to the lakeside town of Bayfield).
Thanks for the response.

Guys,
The marina that I keep my boat in on Saginaw Bay used to be Bayfield
Dealer. We currently have 3 Bayfield 25's, 2 Bayfield 29's and one
Bayfield 32' Cutter in the marina. The 25's are cool little boats, but
in my opinion, underpowered both under sail and under power for their
weight and draft. They are very stout little boats and I nearly
purchased a 25' until I realized that I could neither stand up, nor lay
down in one (I'm 6'-4" tall).

Being short (5'9") has few advantages - but having enough headroom in
sailboats and in the Bayfield 25 in particular is one of them. I would
disagree with it being underpowered under sail. It's fine in medium and
heavy winds and compares favorably with the other boats I encounter and a
150% genoa solves the light wind (I also use a cruising spinnaker), but
the engine could be a bit bigger.
In any event, thanks for the response.
