Recently acquired a 6hp outboard, and would like to know if anyone has any
info on it, such as reliability, fuel mix ratio, etc.

This is the builder's plate:

Cruise-n-Carry
model 6800LS
Made for HMC
by SOLO West Germany
ser 1127

It is a long shaft, two stroke, one cylinder, with an integrated fuel tank,
and a fitting for an external tank. Forward and neutral, with the motor
pivoting around for reverse.

This motor looks very light to be a 6hp. My Merc 7.5 is much biggger, much
heavier , but only rates 1.5hp more. Chalk it up to German engineering, I
guess.

Anyway, if anyone has any info, I'd appreciate it!!!

Thanks!!

I don't believe it is six horsepower. These were air cooled engines made in two
HP models, one, the 6700, of 2.5 HP, and the 6800 of somewhat more but nowhere
near 6. 3.5 maybe?

They are extremely noisy engines, sounding like hyper angry lawnmowers.
Guaranteed to irritate everytone in the anchorage and for miles around. They
are also very light. The 6700 weighs only 16 pounds.

They have not been made or available for years and I have no idea where you
would get parts. We have a 6700. We use it very little but it always starts and
runs. Actually, it's our third one. The first was stolen and the second fell
off the dinghy when the motor mount gave way.

I don't recall a 6hp version, but anything is possible I suppose. It may
be 2.5hp. In any event, the main difference between it and your other one
is that the C&C is an air-cooled engine, and doesn't have the bulk and
weight of the water jacket and water pump and associated plumbing.

I was able to get parts through a store called:

The Boaters' Friend, Inc.
805 University Ave.,
Berkeley, CA
