a gray after being in the water. That way the submarine captains are
confused as to what boat they are shooting at....

If you want help, we need a little more info, like:
A) How bigs the boat
B)Do you pull it out on a trailer or do you keep it permenantly moored
C)What are the local conditions, ie saltwater, freshwater, brackish
water

No offense, since I dont know you or the limits of your knowledge, but
if you needed to ask this question, you need to go to a boat yard or a
proffessional and ask them to get some good info. And as far as
international orange?? Depends, If the boat is above 17 feet (give or
take, depending on the boat) if your that worried about rolling it,
you shouldnt be out!!! If its smaller, You should be able to right it
yourself, making it unnessessary, or you shouldnt be out!!!!

Just my two cents, and no offence intended!!

Try international pink. It is reputedly one of the most visible colors
at sea. I once heard the Air Force issued a scarf to their pilots in
case they ditched that was IP on one side only because it was so glaring
in the sunlight, that it could cause retinal damage if accidently viewed
in the sunlight. I haven't seen this color used outside of this
application. Might look good on the bottom of your craft.

And, in large, contrasting, letters, a message such as
"other side up!"

Your friend obviously has a high opinion of your sailing abilities.

AS they say in N.Y.C.: "Faget abod it"

I always painted one coat of red, and two coats of blue. When the red
started to show through, I knew it was time to repaint.

Heard about the guy painting his boat's bottom, when he started to run
out of paint. He thinned the paint, and then ran out again, So he
thinned some more. As he finished, he had more thinner on the boat than
paint, at which time a great rainstorm washed all the paint off the
boat. A voice came down from the sky and said:

Repaint!! And thin no more!!

The Baileys, who wrote a book about spending 127 days in a life
raft after being sunk by a whale, suggested that red might not
be a good color if it makes whales sink your boat. I don't know
of any scientific evidence to support this theory, but I do know
I'll always paint mine blue just in case.

You could sell advertising space on the bottom so if it rolls over you
will get media attention for your sponsor!!!
