I've been looking for awhile for a boat with enough headroom, but I keep
getting the reply of "she's got enormous amounts of headroom." while in
fact I bump my head entering the salon. So I've solved the problem- I
went to a boat specs book and made a list of all of the boats between
30-39 feet long that have over 6'5" of headroom. From my previous calls
I've found others that are tall like me and would like a boat with
actual headroom, so here is the list. These are the specific models
that have the headroom, don't think that because of the fact that the 34
footer has plenty so will the 38 footer. It is more likely that it will
have less, strange but true.

If you have any additions to this list then contact me, please, or if
you own one of these and the numbers aren't correct then let me know. I
do realize that with the publishing of the list these boats are going to
start selling for more so buy quickly before anyone catches on.

If you are an actual sailor and not a dock sailor you will spend 90% of your
time in the cockpit and not need headroom below.

You need to figure out what you are going to use the boat for first!

Selecting a boat using headroom as a qualifier is not too cool.

We had a guy who was 6'8" look at our boat (a CSY 44' walkover) to see if
he could stand up in it. He could, but only in a few places. He could
only stand at one place in the '33, but he could stand in the 44' walk
through without a problem. He didn't try the CSY 37. I think all the CSYs
have at least 6'6" headroom, and also bunks that are long enough for
persons of that height to sleep.

You also need to see if you could lie down in the bunks BTW.

You must be short.

Excellent point. I'm able to stand and walk around inside of a Mariner 32 with
its 6'7" headroom but the bunks are all designed for someone who's only 5'10".
I guess if I punch a hole in the head I could have a place for my feet. :)

I assumed that since this group was called rec.boats.CRUISING the people here
are looking for boats to travel in, and since most of the time traveling you are
on the hook somewhere living space is essential.

Nay Brian not so! The essence of sailing is sailing. If you are in port over
night you have been there too long.

I picked my boat because of tall, and as someone who has sailed a
bit no cockpit is big enough to hold everything. I spend as much
time going below and back as I do sleeping. Designs do suffer from
getting the headroom, my BR 341 has deck camber a little to sharp
for me but all of life is a compromise.

Nice list- but they're a bit large and expensive.

I'm 6'4". While its very nice to have full standing headroom, the really
critical question is whether you can straighten your back in the cabin. If you
can, you may be able to tolerate ducking a bit.

Bigger than this discussion is about but the 2005-2009 Hunter DS has 7 foot in the salon and 6'9' in the master.

You forgot the Fantasia 35, a Bruce Bingham boat. The owners have a web
