... a Marine Transporter ?

I live near Vancouver, BC Canada. Last year I saw an ocean-going yacht
transport vessel taking on some boats for transport in the Pacific Rim.
It is something like a floating drydock ... you pilot your boat into the
shell ... then it gets pumped and away it goes ...

My problem is that I can't recall the name of the vessel or the
company. I would really like to contact them.

Anybody have any ideas ??

TIA.

It's a good system but very expensive.. Your looking at some major bucks.. I
seem to remember that an Atlantic crossing was around US$30-40K..

A friend had her 35ft Fantaisa sail boat transported from Singapore to
Vancouver BC about 10 years ago and it cost ~ US$10k.. Not sure why the big
difference..

Some of the advantages, you don't need to remove the mast, as you would with
a deck load on a cargo ship. The skipper and crew can ride along, staying
onboard their boat, while utilizing the facilities onboard the transport..
Also I saves wear and tear on the yacht and need for special equipment and
paid crew you might need for major passage making..

In the case I mentioned, the skipper died in the middle of a
circumnavigation and the widow and daughter were left with the problem of
getting the yacht back to the US.. Worked well for them..

The boat's name wasn't "Sea Bear" by any chance?...

That's the name of one of Jack Nicklaus's boats.

I just know of a Fantasia 35 that is currently up north in Great Slave Lake.
She was purchased in Northern BC or Alaska and shipped to Yellowknife.

Who's Jack Nicklaus?

Nope... I don't play golf... I've heard about this "Tiger Woods"
character... is Jack the guy that carries the bag of golf clubs for him?

Jack was winning titles when Tiger was still spunk in his daddies sack. He
also designs some very fine courses.

Oh!.. Okay! So Jack is an old golf player and this Tiger is what... a
young player. Why would a young person take up golf?... it's sort of an old
person's sport isn't it? I read somewhere that old golfers lose their
balls....

To all who responded ...
Thanks for taking the time to get back to me.

After striking out with web searches, I remembered I had seen a picture in a

local paper - the North Shore News about 2 years ago. I went to their
website
and scanned through the back issue archives ... and found it.

Anyway ... safe boating to you all ... and thanks again for trying.

If you are ever up this way, look us up ... our boat is the Celtic Knot
(Bayliner command bridge).

Couple million $$$ a year for smacking your balls with a club while wearing
funny clothes.

When Tiger went pro he signed with Nike for a reported $60 million. Not
bad for smacking golf balls around. This will buy a lot of sailboats,
but you wouldn't have time to sail in them.

This thread reminds me of a possibly apocryphal story of the ATT
executive in Hong Kong who upon his reassignment back to the states
telegraphed his boss asking for authorization to ship his household
goods and junk back home.

I asked for a quote on an O'Day 37 from Newport to Cherbourg. $12,000.

I got a quote for a C&C 35 from Vancouver B.C. to Ft.Lauderdale for
$7000 USD two years ago.
I have spoken with a guy who has used it twice and he really liked it.

A couple of years ago when I was a bit north of Bermuda, a ship came over
the horizon. As it came closer, we could see several masts sticking up in
the air and were trying to figure out what the ship was. It passed quite
close and it was one of these transporters full of yachts. We were slogging
through some pretty heavy seas which made it look like a good way to deliver
boats. The prices are not that far out of line with what it would cost for
a professional crew to deliver the boat. Figure $200-300 (USD) a day for
captain and crew (20-25 days), food, fuel, transportation costs for the crew
and wear and tear (which is usually significant) and it is not a bad deal
