By "countless Americans," do you mean that you can't actually name any?

I can see why you are worried:

It's called travelers medical insurance. Here is one provider:

http://www.worldwidemedical.com/

If you have to fly back to the US don't fly on Canadian airlines, their
planes are old, rickety and probably iced up.

proper medical care? you mean the kind you have in the States where you
can lose your house if you have a heart attack?

Hi Arnold,
allow me to write down a comment:
I am a 73 italian, travel a lot and sail a lot ... Your worry to look
around for medical cares is right ... how may be sure ? how can you
bet on receiving the most appropriate medical help you really needs ?
But, trust me, this issue has not a nationality flag!
All around the world there good (even excellent) MD, and, on the other
side, bad or not professional ones.
Insurance may be a good solution to cover high costs not to fly back
to mom !

Take care of you
Manlio

Oh not so, really, all ignorant bigoted 'mericans should take warning
and stay away, come to think of it, you can drop the " 'mericans" part.
The more enlightened are quite welcome, and will find our health care
system perfectly adequate, though no less expensive; unless you decide
to emigrate and take up permanent residence here.

Cheers

Why not post on can.rec.boating, more likely to get an appropriate answer.
