**** Wood of the Week **** - Ekki
WOODWEB has teamed up with Tree Talk, Inc., and launched what will be the
most detailed and comprehensive wood species data base found on the World
Wide Web. Each week, Tree Talk will present in-depth information on a
featured species at WOODWEB's Wood of the Week. Information will include:
* An extensive description of each species general, physical, and
woodworking properties, including information on its environmental
profile.
* Distribution maps showing the approximate range of the species overlaid
on satellite images of the Earth
* A high-resolution color image
* A chart comparing five basic properties of the species compared against
10 other commonly-known species
* A list of suggested reading sources pertaining to the featured species.
* An extensive glossary of wood-related terms.
Over 900 species will be archived at WOODWEB, available to the public at
no charge. New features will be added in the coming months, including a
common names database to help visitors identify species, video and audio
clips, simultaneous comparisons of multiple species, and several other
unannounced features.
