Anyone know the best (cheapest) catalogue to buy hardware.
Looking for all: deck fittings, heads, galley, instruments, electrical, pumps.

Thanks much,
Barry

PS please respond to me directly at bar...@orionresources.com

Defender is usually cheaper than others. But they're a little slow and don't
have everything in the catalog stocked.

I looked at the defender site, compared a handful of items and most
were close but I did notice some differences like this:

Item: Consumer Marine Electronics Defender
Floscan 5510-264-1 289.00 335.95

Just shows that you need to shop for individual items.

For me, there isn't a single answer.
West Marine certainly has a broad line. Sometimes they're competitive, sometimes
not.
Defender does a good job with fiberglass in small quantities and is spotty
elsewhere.
Jamestown Distributors is good in fasteners, paint sundries, paints and small
tools and hardware.
There are a bunch of suppliers of epoxy, glass and additives. Ask a specific
question and you'll get recommendations.
Ther are some folks with mass-merchandising flavor in the electronics business.
There are local riggers who do a good job with bigger hardware stuff like
travellers and furlers.
There's a guy on EBay selling Harken winches at nearly 50% off.

Ask more specific questions.

Good answers all around, but I also like Hamilton Marine out of Maine
for "alternative" supplies you don't find as easily at West Marine.
Things like Wichard sleeve bearing blocks, which save you about half
over Harkin ball bearing blocks, and are great for things like
halyards. And 5.5 ounce fiberglass cloth at 3.49 a yard (50" wide),
which was the best price I could find. Their website isn't the
greatest, but you can get their toll free number there and request a
catalog. http://www.hamiltonmarine.com
