Who sells extra long hoses for shop vacs or couplings so that several
regular lengths can be attached to make a long one? At Home Depo, I
see replacement hoses for sale but they have no female end so I can't
connect my hose to it. I'd like a hose long enough so that I don't
need to take the shop vac up the ladder and into the boat. 30' would
be nice but 20' would do. I've wondered if the hoses for built-in
vacumn systems would have the correct size male ends.

Thanks,
Glen

Not sure if the diameter would be workable (maybe a reducer at the shop vac
end?) but you might try a central vacuum system supplier. They have hoses
up to around 40' or so if I recall.

OOPS! I read too fast, you already thought about the central vac shop. You
might be able to reduce with PVC fittings from Home Depot.

I just used good ole duct tape to joint the butted slip joint ends of
regular shop hose. I used either one or two sections of 3" and the final
section being 1 1/2" as too much smaller dia. has a lot of friction loss.

When you go back to home depot head over to the plumbing depatment and
check out the sump pump hose. As others said join with duct tape.

Glen,

Swimming pool "vacuum" hoses are long, light, and flexible, if you can
find one the right diameter for your system.

Good luck,
Ford

I just extended my vacuum hose using rhule bilge pump hose...no tape needed,
just squeezed it on.

worked a treat.

I am using sump pump hose, but I get an very loud squeal. Think length must
be resonant. Have to wear ear protectors

Were you still able to use your vacumn attachments on the end of the
bilge pump hose or the pool cleaning hose?

With my Festo vacuum cleaner I joined two hoses with a piece of ribbed
plastic hose that just happened to be a perfect fit. Festo vacuum hoses
can be unscrewed from the end fitting to leave a plain end.
If yours has non removable hose ends you could look in your plumbing
supply store for PVC tube couplings, you might have to turn out a
smaller fitting for a good fit.
Keep in mind that the sucking power reduces due the additional friction
load in the long hose. Maybe you could rig a rigid PVC pipe from your
cleaner to overhead of the boat to connect your shorter hose into.

No problems at all with the bilge pump hose. Once again, just squeezed them on.

Nobody seems to have mentioned it; Home depot has vacuum hose connectors,
probably loose in a bin near the extension hoses. I bought a couple and
seem to remember they were $0.80! I used a little duct tape to keep the
ends together when the vacuum is off. Lacking a third hand, I'm not very
good at taping butt joints in cheap poly hose, so the couplers were welcome.
They are essentially 3" lengths of pipe with a slight taper into each end.

After 13 years, one hopes Glen has either finished building the boat or
at least found a suitable hose, and that Woodensails hasn't gone deaf
from the squeal!

Try Woodcraft or Rocklers. They have all kinds of dust collector stuff.

And Raderome reponded (on 3/29/14) with this link. I just now tried

Smart-assedness aside, I was looking for the same thing and found the link that was provided "13 years" late lead me to exactly what I, too was looking for. So, thanks for the snide remark - you totally contributed to this conversation is a most meaningful way.
