What I've read is that a bluebird box needs to be placed at the edge of a
large, open field or yard. Otherwise, attracting them and encouraging them
to nest may be iffy. My box IS at the edge of a huge farm field. A day after
erecting the box onto a 5' post two early-Marches ago, a bluebird pair
checked it out and eventually nested in it.
