What is an easy way to tell the difference between the male and the
female Canada Goose? They both look the same, unlike most other birds.

Thanks!

As far as I know, there isn't any way to tell gender easily

*Many* other birds look the same for both sexes. The only way to tell
a male and female bristle thighed curlew apart while they're alive is
with specific, careful bill measurements, especially if you have both
of a pair side by side for comparison. (I haven't checked that. I
picked it up watching *swoon* the ever-sexy Ken Dial on All Bird TV.
But because Ken is a Prof. of Ornithology and the show's produced by
the Nature Conservancy and Audubon, I trust it.) (Yes, I have weird
taste. Tall geeky people appeal to me in the most carnal of ways.)

So. I don't know how to tell a boy goose from a girl goose. I just
know that you'll find lots of birds aren't sexually dimorphic.

Good question, Alan. I think they honk differently, when flying,
but you'd be hard-pressed to distinguish which of the pair is ...
"honking" and which is "ah-honking".

We have Canadians and, generally speaking, the males have a more slender
neck -- they're just a tad more "delicate"-looking in the neck and head.
(I've read this -- wouldn't have noticed it otherwise.) It's not very
noticeable, tho', unless you have one of each close enough to each other to
compare. Even then, I wouldn't stake my life on it. :-) Cm

I used to raise Canadian Geese (with a government permit) for almost 20
yrs. and there is no way to tell for sure by eyeballing them. Although
the slender neck part is basically correct but as was stated before not
very reliable. The modern way now is blood-typing for their DNA. That is
99.99% reliable.

The female is the one that lays the eggs.
