We've had some wet weather around here (but that's not news) so I was
surprised to see a Junco in the birdbath. Temps were in the high 30s
this morning, and it isn't much warmer now - but the Juncos seem to
love to bathe - of course they waited until the sun came around the
house, but still...

We've still got two Annas hanging around (at least), so I keep the
nectar feeders (3) full of clear sugar water. They seem to hang around
and eat, then disappear for a while, probably searching for other
tasty feeders. Most suprising is that the hornets (bald faced) are
still around the Perky Pet feeder (two of the spouts are missing bee
covers) so when the hummingbirds eat, they get aggressive bugs after
them at that feeder. The bugs ignore the other feeders, but the
hummers prefer that Perky Pet, too - possibly because I can clean it
better, as it disassembles completely. The saucer feeder with the moat
was popular with the summer crowd and the transients, but doesn't get
much use now (that I notice :)

Up in Seattle it's much the same!

My juncos are happy when I scatter some seed for them to hop around and
find, but they also wait patiently - or not so patiently! - for me to scrub
out and refill the birdbath every day. Both they and the chickadees spend a
lot of time splashing around in there, along with the occasional Steller's
Jay.
