We don't normally have this species here. Not that it's out of the
realm of possibility but it's usually south of me, more around central
and southern Ontario. A lady called me last night, from just down the
street, saying she's sure she an Eastern Towhee in her yard yesterday
afternoon. Of course, they forgot about their camera. :(

I've had reports of this species here before and it's always turned out
to be something else but ......... I remain hopeful.

Since she's just down the street from me (and on the same side!),
there's a good chance this bird could show up in my yard. On my first
official count day for Project FeederWatch, wouldn't that be nice!!

I have a pair of Towhee that nest here in the spring. There were 2 new
ones hatched and I really enjoyed watching them in my back yard. Love to
hear them-- the first note sounds like a "wolf whistle". I hope you'll
get to see and hear them. Keep warm!!

Confirmed, Frieda!! I got to see and photograph him this afternoon!
The same lady called me again to say he had returned and was under her
feeders. She's only about 6 house down the street so it only took me a
minute to get there.

A new one for me! Gotta love it.

Hi Tammie,
That would be a really good bird.

Wonderful, Tammie. Can a cardinal be far behind?

Or at least a lector, porter, exorcist, acolyte or subdeacon? Perhaps
a Bishop (now that's one spectacular bird) or a monsignor? An
archimandrite or two?

How about a Monk (parakeet)? ;)

Seriously, there is a colony of them near my house in N. IL.

Great one for you Tammie, did you hear it tell you to "drink your teaaaaa"?
We have a few that make our surrounding woods their home and it is always
great to hear their call.
I see more males approach the feeders than the females but both are still
unmistakable.
We still have plenty of Juncos stopping by for a snack but have yet to see
any Tree Sparrows or Pine Siskins.
I have been watching a flock of Goldfinches and a lone House Finch out at
the feeders as I type this.
A pair of T. Titmice just did a hit and run on the BOSS in the tray and the
Chickadees do the same.
We have some Cardinals that show up just before sunset and fill up before
going to bed for the night.

Don't forget the Prothonotary (warbler, that is).

That one got me--I had to go look it up.

And I see that I missed "archimandrite". I'll have to look that up too.
