The programme features the Australian national one mile championship; the
slow tace, the ultimate test of balance where the last over the line is the
winner; the slalom, requiring tremendous manoeuvrability; the sprint, a
200 metre dash. Ladies, Veterans and Juniors also vie for the honours.
The spectacle of these magnificent high wheeled machines racing through
the village at break-neck speeds is a sight not to be missed.
Displays of vintage cars, motorbikes and steam engines complement the antique
bicycles, while BMX stunt riders, unicycles and novelty bikes provide an
interesting contrast. Children are entertained with pony rides, puppet
shows, clowns and street theatre - all the old-fashioned delights of a country
fair.
I am proud to be associated with the organisation of the 1992 Evandale
Village Fair and National Penny Farthing Championships, which will
celebrate the 10th anniversary of this event. If anyone is interested in
further information on this event, whether it be for entry details to the
Penny Farthing races, or just further information on the fair, please
don't hesitate to contact me by email.
Dave.
P.S. If no-one has any objections, I'll post a few more articles to this
group to coincide with local press releases .
