Am getting a new Colnago Master X Light soon with the Flash CF fork (at
a $200 upcharge from the steel fork). When I initially was ordering
this, I was under the impression that it was a steel steerer, but later
found out that it was AL. The LBS specced a good # of spacers for this
to get the bars up with a 90 degree stem. Now I'm worried that I
shouldn't be using spacers at all because of durability and flex. I
wouldn't worry so much with a steel steerer.

I've never used a threadless setup before and I realize that 1" AL
steerers are a brand new thing. Should I be worried about using spacers
with this fork? And if not, how many spacers would you consider safe?

Ive seen spacers going pretty high on the Star Carbon forks - too
high in my opinion - it is presumeably OK as the steering column
is quite thick but I'd just use the ITM Colnago stem which should
come with the Flash fork. This stem has a slight rise
already and comes with a second sleeve that gives an additional
+/- 1 cm up or down adjustment if you want to use that instead. I just put
the standard one in and used a 1 cm spacer. Plenty of height.
If you didnt get the ITM stem with the forks I'd inquire about that.
Nice choice by the way : > And the color is??

I wouldn't worry about it-3cm isn't too many-if it were a CF steerer-then 1cm
max-

But if ys need a ton of spacers and a 90 degree stem-does it fit ya?
Did they 'build' it on a fit cycle first??

I hope it fits...actually ordered it at the shop you work at (Pro
Peloton) and was fitted on the size cycle there. Still waiting for it
to come in though--supposed to be mid-January. Since I need a 61-62cm
frame it's not very often I get the chance to test ride anything before
buying. I realize that the size of bikes varies quite a bit from brand
to brand, but this is actually a centimeter bigger than the last bike I
had so I can't imagine it's too small. I think they specced it with a
90 degree ITM Big One stem...though some other poster mentioned that
the Flash fork came with it's own stem...but maybe that was just for
the Star fork? Never heard anything about that.

Anyway...thanks for the advice.

I wonder why you have to wait so long?

The large Colnagos have an extended seat tube with a relatively
small main triangle as a result. A size 62 Colnago will have a top tube of
58.5 cm. Its only a 58 cm center-center.

Well then maybe the Flash doesnt as it has an aluminum steerer. The advantage
of the stem that comes with the Star is that you have a +/- 1 cm up
down adjust sleeve along with a standard sleeve. It also has a naturally
upward slope. For CNC it is quite nicely finished off too
(doesnt look like a Brooklyn Bridge).
Anyway its an ITM as well.
Good enough for the pros is good enough for us generally.
