I called Waterford 2 weeks ago and asked for a brochure on their road frames. I'm
still waiting. They must not want my business very badly.

: Anyone familiar with the differences between the 1200 (racing) and 1250
: (sport touring)? I am not sure which one I want. I don't know how the
: comfort levels will compare and how much less responsive the 1250 will be.
My wife just ordered an 1150 (that's the same geometry as the 1250, but
made out of Reynolds 531 instead of 753). The 1250 has slightly longer
chainstays than the 1200, so a longer wheel base and more tire clearance
behind the seat tube. It also comes with rear eyelets for a rack. If
you want a pure racing machine, I'd say to go with the 1200. If you don't
ride competitively and might want to put a rack on occasionally, I'd say
go with the 1250. And if money is an object, you might consider going
with 531 instead of 753. Saves about $400.

Let's see here. You call a major frame manufacturer that is slightly
financially embarassed and expect them to put an expensive brochure in
the mail at their expense so that you can glance through it and then
throw it away.
Well, gosh, I can't think of why they aren't busting their butts to make
you happy.

You'll find that the 1250 typically has a longer wheel base, braze-ons for
paniers and racks, a lower bottom bracket, and a little more relaxed
angles. The 1250 would be much more comfortable for long distance rides
and is more stable. I don't know the specs for your size frame (62cm??)
but a 56cm has 74 deg head tube and a 73.5 seat tube whereas the 1250 has,
I believe, a 73 deg head tube and seat tube. As I mentioned in a previous
email I recently built a frame modeled exactly after the Waterford 1200
56cm. The stearing is very quick compared to my older frame.

Call them back. Things get lost in the mail. Mistakes happen - maybe
they put the wrong address on the brochure. Don't judge what is otherwise
an excellent company because you don't get the brochure pronto.

The ride is incomparable, Stiff and Sweet at the same time. The handling
characteristics can easily be said as "Total Control"!
The quality and workmanship is unsurpassed.
I went a few steps further and had the S&S Couplings installed which marvel
anyone who sees the bike and the couplings (I had a Standup Custom Paint
job done which attracts some attention as well!)
I ordered my frame through a Bike Shop - Open Road Bicycles in Jackson,
Florida, (904) 636-7772.
The owner of the shop, Scott Gross, worked with me every step of the way
as far as the sizing equipment, etc.
Every Waterford frame is a custom frame, and custom frames take time - Mine
took 16 weeks in all from beginning of order to receipt - BUT YOU CAN BE
ASSURED THE WAIT IS WORTH IT!
As far as response from Waterford - When I had a question, it was quickly
answered, Richard Schwinn himself had called me personally several times
pertaining to my order to make sure about some of my specific requests,
etc.
GO FOR IT - YOU WON'T BE SORRY!

I can only relate second hand info here, but a friend tried to buy a
Waterford frame from the company a few months ago. They came to quick
agreement on price/terms over the phone, but for the following two months,
Waterford seemed to fall completely down when it came to delivering as
promised. Followup phone calls were met with additional unfulfilled
promises, confusion, and disinterest on their part. The order was
eventually rescinded.
Maybe this was an isolated incident, but it sure as heck doesn't do a
company any good to leave a customer (in this case a LBS owner) feeling as
if the company he's trying to do business either doesn't care about their
sales, or isn't equipped to handle them in a responsible manner. I
watched this little drama unfold, and as nice a their frames may be, they
have left me with an impression that may be hard to overcome.
One man's opinion...

In the beautiful Blue Ridge
Steve, i'm a Florida Waterford dealer and this company is overanxious to
take care of their customers. Waterford works only through their dealer
representatives, not from factory direct sales. If you have questions e
mail waterford at h20...@aol.com and they will answer you right back.
Richard Schwinn and wife Shoe are the finest of people and Marc Muller
and wife Wendy are the same. I sell Waterfords all over the U.S. and if
you desire information email me back and i'll get a package right out to
you. Prices are going up on 9-1 so if you want to order a frame at
todays prices you need to hurry. My phone # is 352-795-6449, Charlie
Wade, Suncoast Cycles, Crystal River, Florida Thanks.
