I am having trouble finding a 13/32" x 26tpi tap.

This is the thread size for a Sturmey Archer rear axle.

Anyone know if these are available in the USA?

Lewis.

I don't but it's a Whitworth format if that helps your search.
p.s. axle nuts are dirt cheap compared to taps!

Thanks, Andy, you are correct but I want to make some 'custom' nuts.

The late great Sheldon Brown cut slots in a Sturmey axle and used that
as a tap.

Try here

http://mdmetric.com/britcut.htm

Maryland Metric has a large selection of British tools and fasteners.

If they don't have what yo want, let me know -- there are other sources.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I ended up buying one from E-bay:-

http://stores.ebay.com/The-Tool-Shack

The guy advertised it as 'used' but it looks new and cuts perfectly.

So are you going to tell us what sort of "special" nuts you made? Cap
nuts, BOB nuts, tiedown anchors?

Well, since you ask, I made a 'special' nut that I needed to mount on
of these lights :- http://tinyurl.com/6lmhc3 on the Sturmey Archer
hub of the bike that I ride most.

I know this thread died year ago, but I'm in the same situation; I need a custom nut for an SA hub. I tried the links mentioned in this thread, but have been unable to find a 13/32 26 tpi tap. Let me know if you have any ideas.

Thanks,
Kevin

WELL, Kevin where are you located ?

try McMaster Carr online...email.

BTW, I was using Ace and TValue taps.

Bought 2636A85

tapping with the 2636 and MC drill bit is using a completely different tool than Ace/TV

Ace/TV is difficult, MC tap screws right in.

the MC tap's tapir angle and attack is shallower, more gradual and continuous along the length then Ace/TV

No source for that tap, but write me and describe what sort
of custom application you're considering for a Sturmey hub
nut. We can probably help.

I'm trying to attach a FollowMe tandem to a Sturmey Hub. I have a nut the company in England thought would work, but it is 3/8 26 TPI. It is basically a nut that looks like this:

http://www.followmetandem.co.uk/followme-tandem-accessories/followme_quick_adaptor_for_solid_axle_m10.php

but has 13/32 26 TPI instead of M10 (or 3/8 26 TPI). I'm guessing that my 3/8 26 tpi could be drilled an tapped fairly easily if I had the right tools (or I could send it to you and see if you could modify if). Let me know!

We would turn the proprietary shape (or cut it from your
original) and silver braze the special top to a Sturmey axle
nut. Much simpler than sourcing a rare tap.
