Does anyone know what the frame weight is on either the Trek carbon 5200 or
5500? Why doesn't Trek publish this information?

I believe TREK does publish the weight, but it might be difficult to find.
A mid-sized (56cm) 5200/5500 should weigh 2.4 lbs without fork.

I've seen it (and other model weights) in Trek's printed catalog,
which should be available at dealers. The Trek web site doesn't seem
to give frame weights.

I weighed my Trek 5200 model 2001 in the shop when I picked it up. The scale
recorded 8.4 kg including 338 g of pedals. Nothing else added.

Don't think that can be due to only the different carbon. OCLV110 as opposed
to OCLV120 ( I think I got that right ;)
The 5200 is Ultegra components and Rolf Vector Comp wheels. I suspect you
have lighter wheels and maybe Dura-Ace?

Why do you call it "crazy light?" I have one and it seems just fine.
It's very comfortable and it has lasted one race season so far.

Crazy light sounds reasonably complimentary. If he'd said stupid-light,
that might be different! Lots of the stuff I ride on is "crazy light"
compared to the components of yesteryear.

5500 and 5200 both use OCLV 120, it's the 5900 that uses OCLV 110

maybe the 7.89 kg is not accurate...I had that translated from 17.4 lbs
It weighed that much at the store here in Ohio, USA

Nobilette/steel fork/C-Record stuff...(19.25 with pedals)

My Colnago Master Extra Heavy weighs in at 20.4 pounds. My 5500 tips the
scales at 17. Is there a bowel movement worth of weight between them? Will
laxatives be the final frontier in the weight wars? Stay tuned folks!

For pre-season training what about filling the seat tube with lead shot? It
would be non-destructive, add 30 pounds to the bike and still not mess up
the handling too badly.

Knew a guy that coached juniors and for the fall/winter had them carry a water
bottle of lead shot..and no big rings!!
