I want to order something from Bike Nashbar, and I was wondering what
experiences people have had in ordering and receiving goods.
How do the goods get delivered - by who?
When do you actually pay GST and customs charges?
Are there any brokerage charges, if so how much, and do they depend on the
$ value?
Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

George

I live in Montreal, and I've ordered from Nashbar several times. They
shipped to me via 1st class mail (took about 10 days, altogether). The
post office will send you a card with the amount owing for GST and duty.
In my case, the duty has always been 7.5% for everything, even though I
had ordered a mix of items, some of which I thought would be charged at
a higher rate. You then go to the post office, pay the $$, and they give
you your stuff. Then you go riding!

Well, same thing for here, except for the fact that my postman actually
brings it to my door and if no one is home, then he leaves a card.

Very good service, definitely good for us Canucks.

UPS or whoever they contract out to in your area.

You pay the driver, and if you live in a HST province like me, you'll be
paying that instead of just the GST. Dal? Howdy-ho good neighbor.

Yes and yes, I don't know the percent, but I usually end up getting a bill
from UPS for around 16$ on a $200 order.

I've ordered tons of stuff from the States-wheels, a frame, etc., and the
most important advice i can give you is: Tell them to ship your goods by
regular mail, and NOT BY UPS! UPS cost me a fortune. Normally, a package
takes about 10 days to get to you, and you'll get a card from the post
office telling you where to pick up your package. You then pay the duty and
taxes at the post office. EG: I got a Colnago Master Piu frameset in '92
from Colorado Cyclist, and paid about $135 to the mailman. They ceased
door-to-door delivery a couple of years ago, so you'll have to go through
the above-mentioned procedure. I've bought from Nashbar, Performance,
Excel, and Colorado Cyclist, and I've had no problems with any of them. The
order people at Excel and C.C. are VERY knowledgeable cyclists, and can
answer any questions, whereas the people at Nashbar and Performance know
less about cycling than your grandmother, so I avoid calling them whenever
possible. I saved alot of money buying this way, but have recently found a
better system for Canadians:Find a distributor (someone in Canada who sells
to stores) outside of your province. This way, he can legally sell to you,
and as a bonus, you pay GST but no provincial tax. I bought a frame (and
lots of other stuff since) that cost $1500US for $1900CDN, and that
includes GST and $10 shipping, and I got it 2 days later. You can't do
better than that.

From experience ordering from Nashbar to BC Canada.

Nashbar delivers by US/Canadian mail. GST et al payed when pick up package.
Post charges flat $5 at pickup time for brokerage fee.
