I've used Sidi Genius shoes exclusively for maybe 20 years and love them but my current pair is wearing out and the high cost of replacements (~$250) is making me wonder whether there are better values out there.

I want something that fits comparably to the Sidis, ratcheting buckle, durable, and ideally not too garish looking.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry I can't offer any comparison to Sidi, as I've never had a
pair (although, I think maybe my first pair of motocross boots
bought second-hand at age ~12 and soon outgrown were Sidi), but
would like to try a pair someday, because...

Shoes are one of those things where quality really matters -
and the difference is invaluable.

So far I've only used Shimano bicycling shoes, which are quite
reasonably priced, and satisfactory quality - especially at the
price.

SiDi shoes/boots are durable enough that they are a better value than
many less expensive brands.

Shimano uses too narrow of a last for my feet. :(

You can pay less but they won't fit or last as well as SiDi.

Most Shimano shoes have the ratcheting buckle, although their size
rating is a bit strange so if you decide on Shimano shoes you really
should actually try them on as, for example, I wear a size larger in
Shimano then I do in any other shoe.

I've had Specialized and Shimano shoes that fit and worked well -- and I currently have Sidi. I don't think that any of the three is head and shoulders above the other. It's all about fit . . . and hardware. I've broken a couple of the Specialized ratchets, but replacements were easily obtained (although not cheap). The Shimano were excellent shoes, well built and worked with my narrow feet -- but sizing was a little odd in larger sizes. The Sidi are good, but I'm still getting them dialed in. I had hot foot today -- but not last week. Like I said in another post, insoles are really important to me, and I think I need to do a little work on my insoles.
