It is.

No, they certainly are not all the same, but yours is the most common size.
You'll find a treatise on this in my Bicycle Glossary at:

Nobody makes seatposts to such tight tolerances! ;-)

No, that's _way_ off. The 1" size has long been popular on Raleigh bikes.
I've got several suitable seatposts available...see:

Nope.

Yep.

I picked up a Raleigh Talon CX cro-moly frame for next-to-nothing this past weekend.  It's a long story but kinda funny - I won't bore you with it.

It appears to be a hybrid frame (I put a 700c road wheel on the fork and temporarily installed a cantilever from my boy's mountain bike -> the pad matches on the rim!)

I intend to build this into a cycle cross bike.  I have my pick of either 8 speed 105 or 7 speed RSX (both STI, both 1998).

Question 1:  Are stem diameter's all the same?  The inside diameter of the threaded fork is 0.875"

Question 2:  The bike had a beat up 1.000" diameter seat tube.  I don't see anything close in any of my mail order catalogs (is 26.8 mm considered "close").   The inside of the frame seat tube measures about 1.010".  What might fit?

Question 3:  Anybody see a problem installing either the RSX or 105 bottom bracket?

To complete the bike I need:

1. Cantilever's that can have an accelerator attached for use with the road levers.
2. Stem
3. Seatpost
4. 700c tires (30 or bigger)
5.  Road handlebar   Current road bike's bar is 42cm ctr - ctr

Oh yah...I gotta straigten my CXP 11 rims and relace them onto my RSX hubs (i've never done this one before!).  Will the CXP 11's be "good enough for now?"  Will they handle 30 or 32's?

Thanx in advance for the help....Jim Bongard
