I bought some of this today looking for some lube and now I am thinking
I really don't like the idea of wax coating the chain. For normal dry
weather rode biking I am thinking this is not the best stuff.

Brilliant stuff when used inside a chaincase. Clean to work with if
you handle your chain a lot. Does what it says on the bottle: makes
your chain stay clean longer. The major irritation is that you have to
degrease your chain thoroughly before you apply the White Lightning
Wax for the first time.

I have no experience of White Lightning Dry Wax on open chains but it
has been reported here that an application lasts only one ride in the
wet or muddy conditions. If true, that compares poorly with enclosed
chaincase use, where after 500 miles the chain still seemed adequately
lubricated.

Why?

With what evidence do you form this opinion?

WL is fine in the dry, especially if you warm it in a water bath
before applying so it doesn't clog.

It's just chain anti-squeak. Don't have a cow about it.

I like White Lightning a lot. Only need to apply it every two weeks or so
in dry conditions (road bike); more often for off-road. Wouldn't recommend
it for wet weather use.

Where I ride it's pretty wet and gritty a lot of the time. I use
Dumonde Tech: It's messy, stinky, expensive, and works extremely
well. Also works great in dry conditions, but lasts much longer. I
sometimes get one or maybe two re-applications - especially if rain is
washing out the oil - before it starts gunking up too much, then soak
and scrub the chain in mineral spirits.

Good product. Dumonde and ChainL are great chain lubes,
especially in wet and salt.

To what temperature and what temperature of chain?

It's probably best to run it on a high pressure lubricant first.

Keeping in mind that choice of chain lube is practically a matter of
religious faith and disputes on the subject come close to erupting
into holy wars - I like White Lightning, especially under dry
conditions. It is probably the "cleanest" lube you will find and that
is its claim to fame.
If you have some reason not to like it, by all means, don't use it.
But it does its intended job very well.

Yuck. When the nincompoops start throwing salt around, the savvy vote
with their feet.

When I saw DeForest and lube, I thought of a product used at ABS.

I once hired a guy who had worked there. You don't want to
ask, believe me.

yup so I wuz ahhh grocery shopping wearing a dust mask at Tillamook,
Or G'n and fiend pulls up begins explaination on the problem which
was, along the Trask River, a thick haze of RIPE cow manure. Ahhhhh
sh*t, I thought, 'more expatriates from the Catskills.' But no said
friend, "SWEDES'!

Mechanization and labor saving devices have struck the mnaure spreader
industry.

The Swedes load cow manure fresh off the tail into a hopper. Hopper
feeds the air compressor POOP GUN. POOP GUN then goes pop pop pop pop
pop pop pop pop pooping manure mixed with O2 into the air and into
town.

One direct hit is the local hospital.

The town is spreading off course directly away from the poop gunners.
