You're right about it being metric 10 mm. :-) It's 10x1 in fact.

Campy is 10mm by 26 TPI with a 55 degree thread angle.

Most derailleur hangers are 10x1mm; Campagnolo's are 10x26tpi
which is close enough to work with 10x1mm but not exactly the
same.

well, yes
10 x 1
10mm x 26 TPI roughly equals 10x1 as 15.4mm to 1 inch...
I blieve both are EXACTLY the same, as i have NEVER seen a campy size vs.
standard tap and every bike ive tapped worked fine for both campy and
shimano, as well as bikes already tapped.
Anyone care to confirm (or put me in my place)...
For all practical purposes you are right.
They aren't EXACTLY the same, but they are close enough for drop outs,
because the threaded part is pretty short. If you tried substituting
26 TPI for 1mm on a bolt that where the threads were engaged for 2cm
it would be off by half a thread by the time you got to the other end
and the bolt would bind or strip.
Third Hand does sell taps in both threadings, although the campy tap
is 4 times as expensive.
