According to some catalogue info, the CU92 is 30% stronger than 6061
aluminum and tougher than 7000 series aluminum. It has the properties of
7000 in terms of welding, etc. but works like 6061. It also is supposed
to have the highest resistence to cracking. Supposedly Alcoa has told
Giant that Giant can actually make the bike frame lighter. The frames are
also butted. If you want more specifics you can contact Giant on AOL. I
think the address is ridea...@aol.com.

The tubing is actually Alcoa Cu-92. Giant isn't the only bike company
using it. Norco is using it also. CU-92 is the company name for it,
the grade (as I recall) is 6129. It has ultimate strength and fatigue
resistance approaching the lever of 7000 series but with Superior
Corrosion resistance properties. It was designed for use in aircraft
whose designers are more concerned with fatigue and corrosion than
anything else. Giant has been using it for 2 years now (they only
started an add campaign about it a few months ago).
