Anybody know of any comparisons between the two?

Any strong opinions of one or the other?

Anyone got there hands on a set of the new DA wheels yet?

Thanks,

Jeff

Don't know about differences in aerodynamics, but the Shimano wheels do ride
a bit "softer" and seem to exhibit a bit more side-to-side play than the
Rolf Vector Pro. We have both in stock, by the way.

It turns out that the strange Shimano spoking pattern, where the left-side
spokes cross over to the right-side of the rim, was *not* chosen for reasons
having anything to do with wheel strength etc. Shimano has a patent on a
way to increase the number of cogs to as many as 14, and, guess what, it
*requires* that the spokes cross over like that in order to gain the extra
clearance for the outermost cogs, which are dished. And Shimano just
happens to have patented that wheel feature...

I wish I could remember where I read this, but someone "reported" somewhere
that the way the spokes enter at the sides of the rim on the new Shimano wheels
really screws up their aerodynamics.

Sorry I can't point you to the source of that report. I probably shouldn't
repeat it and you should take it with the appropriate grains of salt.

If you want the same performance at 1/2 the price of either wheels,
find a good wheelbuilder and have them build up a set of 28f/32r wheels
using the following parts:
hubs: Shimano Dura Ace (310g, w/o skewers) or 99 Campy Record (250g w/o
skewers)
rims: clincher - Fir SC 150 (~400g); or tubular Fir ST-120L (~330g)
spokes: DT Revolutions 14/17; or Wheelsmith 14/16
aluminum alloy nipples
A set of wheels build by a good wheelbuilder will be lighter, strong,
more durable and surprise, cheaper than the boutique wheels you're
looking at. If you break a spoke, almost any lbs in the world will be
able to fix it. The only advantage that the Rolf/Shimano wheels may
have is they MAY be more aero (if that's a concern). Brewster

Does anyone know what athlete rode th TDF using
a 11 speed rear shimano cassette and a special carbon wheel.

Look for the red colored bar-end shifter and one of the bikes,
that was the giveaway.

Don't waste your money on either-have a good wheelbuilder custom build a
wheelset specifically for you and your needs-
