Under the sports column, using the keyword, "sports" . The article states that
small bicycle company takes in the glory due to Lance's win. It says that
Lance's bikes are purchased from Litespeed, custom made at a tune of $6,000 a
piece. Then a Trek decals are applied. The question is: Is this just for the
Time Trial bike or his road bike also?? .........................Opinions
please............

unless litespeed magically learned how to make OCLV carbon frames, i'd say that
lance's road bikes are from trek...

I believe his TT bike was a Litespeed.

The TT bike is a Litespeed Blade. Bobby Julich rode one, too.

and the road bike is indeed a Trek.

Yeah, you can tell by looking at the head tube "fairing", it is the same as
found on the Blade.

Just the TT bike.

Next question: the TT bikes for the rest of the USPS team were noticably
different from Lance's Blade. (They looked kind-of like the 2000 series
alum frame.) What did the rest of the team use for TT?

Lance rode his old Blade, but the rest of the Postal TT bikes are built by Trek
in the R&D lab.

I understant the Trek bikes were stock machines.

Additionally, I hear that Lance paid for the Blade himself (at a whopping 20%
under wholesale), since Trek wouldn't build him a custom TT frameset)!

That's disappointing. When I worked for Trek (1980-1986) we
custom-built all the team frames.

Hmm...MM said the frames were shipped out of stock (with the exception of
Livingston's, which was a prototype of the 1 1/8" headtube that's been put
off for awhile).

And what are you doing slumming around in the newsgroups? I thought you had
a life (unlike me, who spent the better part of the past five days
clarifying who rode what on the USPS team)...

I sent the following question to Lightspeed:

Was Lance's bike really a Litespeed with Trek decals?

"You're correct - Lance's time trial bike was a custom Blade. By the
terms of his sponsorship contract with Trek he was allowed to choose any
bike he wanted, and that was a Litespeed. Because we are not the
sponsoring company he had to pay for this - money well spent, obviously!
His ROAD BIKE was a TREK, however."
