But.
It is a CCM bike made from Reynolds 531 Tubing.
Components look like cobbled together stuff.
Scwinn derailleur and Shimano brakes which look pretty bad.
Is this worth anything?
Is it worth putting decent components on?
Should I just put it out by the street and let it go away?
Thanks for any info.
Don
I know of at least three models of CCM that were made with Reynolds
531, all made during the early to mid 70's. They are the Mistral,
Silver Ghost and the Tour de Canada. Of these, the first two were
made with stamped dropouts and I believe straight guage tubing. They
weren't bad at the time, but they're nothing special.
The Tour de Canada, on the other hand, was made with with Campy
dropouts and came equiped with Nouvo Record components. This was
quite a nice bike, comparable to a Raleigh Professional from England.
I knew someone who raced one well into the 80's. Not a great crit
bike (wheelbase was classic 70's road racing), but a pretty nice
riding bike, notwithstanding. If you have one of these, it's worth
something, but probably not a whole lot. More likely, you have one of
the former, in which case, give it to someone who might want it as a
beater bike. By the way, if I recall correctly, all of these frames
needed a relatively long reach brake (the "normal" as opposed to
"short-reach" brake of the day - the former is more difficult to find
these days).
E-mail me if you need any other questions.
