My brother has a Rolf Vector Pro wheelset for triathlons (650c). The
rear hub flange just failed (common problem with these apparently).
Rolf says these were made under license by Trek and no current Rolf
parts can be interchanged with these wheels. Trek says they can't get
a replacement hub (paired 16 spoke). That seems odd to me. The
current Rolf Vigor hub looks like it would work. Is this something the
LBS should be able to order and rebuild the wheel? Anyone else
successfully had one of these hubs replaced? Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Bruce

Rolf is correct. Those wheels were manufactured under license from Rolf
Dieter. I cannot speak to the commonality of hub flange breakage
however as it has never been brought to my notice before. These Hubs
however were manufactured for Trek by Hugi. If you knew what you were
to listen for you would definetly hear the similiarity between a Hugi
240 freehub and a Rolf Vector Pro Freehub. Now, I am not sure whether
such a thing would be available but I would see what your LBS could do
to contact Hugi and see if there were any pieces left.

I picked up one of these rims real cheap on ebay,
plan to build it with a 32 spoke non-paired hub
(near tangential, 14/15ga conventional spokes with
nipples inverted inside the rim on a sturdy mtb hub).

the numbers are in spocalc using "Greer" internal nipples,
easy enough to adjust for regular ones. I'm gonna put
washers up there also.

I'm going to build it as a front (race only) wheel but it
oughta be about the same for the rear if your rider(s) are
light enough.

Interesting. Considering the Rolf hub was supposedly designed to
handle the high spoke tension required for 16 spoke wheels, and it
still failed, I'm surprised a 32 spoke mountain bike hub would work.
But if it works, you will have at least answered part of my original
question. I just don't understand why any paired 16 spoke hub (like
the Rolf Vigor) wouldn't work as a replacement hub with this rim.

I don't see anything special about the rim or hub that would preclude
this, yet the Trek shop and Rolf both seem to be suggesting that there
are no suitable replacement hubs for this wheel. Maybe they're just
giving me the runaround because of their acrimonious split (i.e., Rolf
wants to imply that the Trek licensed wheels are useless and can't be
repaired, and Trek doesn't want to order a Rolf Vigor hub to repair one
of their failed wheels).

Thanks for the replies Ed and Josh.
