I took the 800 with me instead of the 830. When I got back and "sync'd" it, it doesn't show a Sunday ride. If I unplug the 800 and look in history, today's ride is there. So how do I get it to load into the record?

Are you in a 'Garmin upload black hole'?
Go to garmin connect website and log into your account. Connect your edge 800 to a USB port. The Edge will pop up in your file system as a drive called GARMIN. In the file structure there should be a folder activities which will contain your ride as a fit file. On the Garmin Connect site in your account you can upload that fit file (cloud symbol in the upper right corner with an arrow pointing into that cloud symbol). Follow the instructions on the screen. Or.... you can try to sync it again with Garmin Express tomorrow.

I should also add that Garmin has NO real person support. And the list of questions they have do not relate to the problem I am having.

Tom, you might see if there's a way to convert the .fit file to a
simpler format (like .gpx or .tcx) and then try again. GPSies
used to have great tools for this, but it looks like they've been
subsumed by All Trails and that it may take an account to use?

Looks like this might be an option...

Yes, the info at this link sounds promising...

Ted, that fixed the problem and the route and all looks entirely correct. But it doesn't think that it is a bicycle ride, though it doesn't matter the mileage etc. all logged in.

Oops, It did repair the .fit file and concert it to a .gpx file, It shows the route and the mileage but ranks it as "other" rather than "cycling" so it doesn't show in the cycling column as mileage.

Can you or anyone else know how to change the mileage into a cycling mileage?

Two things you could try. A .gpx file is straight text, so you
could search for "other" and replace it with "road cycling" (or
whatever is correct) and upload again.

I don't use Garin Connect (other than to pass my rides to
RideWithGPS), but when I look at an activity on it I see a drop
down at the top left that has all kinds of activity types. I bet
you could just change it there.

After hours and hours I finally discovered how to change the "RUNNING" file into a cycling file. This makes this the longest mileage month in a year. And I still have two more rides this week/month.

One will be the adventure ride over Redwood Rd. and Skyline and back home which I would guess from this point to be 45 miles or so. The Thursday Ride will be around 36 miles unless I decide to make it a real killer ride down Niles Canyon and back via Palomares Rd. The Alameda County site says that Palomares is closed but it isn't since I drove up to the winery there to pick up a case of wine. They could not possibly keep that road closed because there are so many private homes there on both sides of the peak. So I am liable to have a higher than 600 mile month. This may not be all that far compared to Lou but he's still a punk kid.
