Gary basically it the Shimano Altus, AceraX and Alivio Cranksets, only the
ones with the production numbers, which are found on the Right Hand Crank
arm need to be replaced.
The numbers are found on the inside portion of the Crank Arm
Altus- FC-CT90
AceraX- FC-M290
Alivio- FC-MC12
You should have received a notice from the Bike shop where you purchased
your bike, Shimano provided post cards to be sent, of course they did not
provide the postage, that is the shops responsibility.
Be prepared to wait for your cranks, Shimano is very slow at shipping them
out, they say they are trying to give each shop some, the shop that I work
at sent 854 post cards so we potentially have an ongoing large job ahead of
us.
If your shop did not notify you contact them about it, and perhaps ask why
they didn't.
The cranks were on mostly 1995 and 1996 model bikes.
If you bought your bike at a mass merchant or sporting goods type store do
not expect any help from them, take it to a local bike store, they should
be willing to help you but be prepared to wait a bit longer since the shop
customers will be first in line.

This crank recall applies in Europe also, but none of the shops I've
been to have heard about it. I contacted Shimano (Europe) about this,
and they gave the following number for UK customers with these cranks
for more information:
0800 525565
Check that you do have one of the affected cranks before contacting
them. I have one (on a Dawes Horizon), but have not had the opportunity
to follow this up as that bike and myself so happen to be in different
countries at the moment.
Simon.
