I am looking at purchasing a Guerciotti bike made of Columbus Neuron
tubing. Has anyone had any experience with this particular bike...or
with Guerciotti bikes in general? I would like to know about the
quality and durability of Guerciotti bikes, as well as where they are
made and by whom. Thanks!

'cept for the aluminium Guerciotti's, which were (are?) made
by Alan. ;-)

As far as I know, Guerciotti bikes are made in Italy by, uh,
Geurciotti. Maybe the've been swallowed up by someone else, but I
don't remember hearing about it. They are well-made by all accounts
I've heard, but I don't own one myself.

I have a Guerciotti EL-OS fillet brazed frame.
It's light and solid.
I've ridden over curbs, small potholes, etc.
(I'm a NYC commuter.)
I weigh about 135, BTW.
I think I have about 5000 mi on my bike.
The frame is nice, but no better or worse than anything else I've seen.
Last I heard, Guerciotti's are made by a company owned by Paolo
Guerciotti.
I doubt he does the frame building himself though.
His company I think is the export wholesaler of Campy stuff, Selle
Italia, 3T, Vittoria, and Sidi.

I hope that helps.
If you have any further questions about my frame, let me know.

It is not necessarily obvious that Guerciotti built a Guerciotti. Until
1988, Antonio Mondonico was Paolo's master builder, so if you have
an old Guerciotti, it may actually be a Mondonico!

But, while The original poster may have misspoke, I think what he is
interested in is the importer of Guerciotti ( ie Mondonicos are imported
by Torelli ).

Sooo... can anyone provide a useful response instead of a snide
remark?

I have owned a Guerciotti for about 4 years. Nice ride. It was imported
by Zar International 84 lenox Ave. Stamford CT. 800-cycles-1 They also
import Ciocc and De Bernardi.

Hope this helps.

Hmmm, snide remarks are more fun, but let's see:

Gita Sport imports DeRosas, Eddy Merkyx's, Pinarellos and Giordanas.

Red Rose imports Carreras.

World Class Cycles has Bob Jacksons.

Torelli's are imported by Torelli, who also does Mondonicos and
Masi's.

Excel Sport does Bottechias

EuroCycles-USA is now doing Peugeots (will miracles never cease?)

Reynolds (tubing) has their own US office
Columbus (tubing) is imported by Nova Cycle Supply

And, finally, Zar International does Cioccs, DeBernardis and
Guerciotti's.
^^^^^^^^^^^

Criminy, that was a tough one to find -- talk about the end of the
alphabet.

p.s. BTW, a useful guide to this sort of trivia is

It's _Bicycle Guide's_ Index to Manufacturers, which includes phone
numbers and some addresses.

The original poster didn't want to know who imports them. The bike is already
within his sight. He wanted to know "where they are made and by whom", or the
bike's pedigree. I don't think he was asking who the head welder was, either. It
doesn't really matter who Guerciotti has on their payroll to do the brazing, if
it comes out of their factory, it's still a Guerciotti. Now, some Guerciottis
may be better than others because of who did the brazing, but I didn't know the
answer to that and didn't represent that I did. I have an Eddy Merckx. I'm
pretty sure the Cannibal didn't construct the frame with his own hands, but
everything he believes about how a bike should be designed and built is in that
frame, no matter who did the brazing. Likewise, Mondonico would be following
Guerciotti's orders. Then, when he left and formed his own company, he could
build bikes his way, and then they are Mondonicos. I think the original poster
was interested to know if Guerciotti is a for-real builder or a label for a
generic brand, or if Guerciotti had some builder in China actually making the
frames. My reply was intended to indicate that Guerciotti built their own bikes
in Italy, but that I didn't know for sure that were not owned by somebody else.
If that's snide, then so be it. Lighten up.

Then I apologize to you for misunderstanding your intent. The way you
wrote
this, I believed you were implying the answer should have been obvious to
the
original poster.

Cheers

Guerciotti sub'd out alot of the framebuilding of his frames. The Billato
factory built a number of his frames.
