I was on Peter White's site, deciding to order a Busch & Muller S6
dynamo, and I see that it's been discontinued. Not sure if Busch &
Muller has gotten out of the dynamo business or what. The B&M Dymotec
S12 is still apparently available for now, but at $285.00 I think I'll
pass on it.

Are there any other high quality sidewall dynamos available? I see a
bunch of junky ones from Bike Gear and Bell.

This is a timely question. My son (presently unemployed, does not have
much disposable income) has, after a few months of living in the Dutch
city of Utrecht, picked up the habit of going as many places as possible
on his bicycle. Sometimes his trips home are close to or shortly after
dusk and I'd to look into the less-expensive dynamo* options. So I'll be
reading this thread with interest.

=============
* Isn't "dynamo" a synonym for "generator"? Permanent-magnets + coils
generators? How can they cost hundreds of dollars?

Just get a fork mounted Basta with an integrated light like everybody
and their mamma has on their fiets--they're like $15 at the herring
bazaar or something. I got one here with a busted light, might get a
Planet Bike headlamp for it. Think it was $12 in Sweden. Or just get
some LEDs--teach the kid to beg for AAs thrice yearly amongst the
heroin junkies in the town center.

I've been quite impressed with the inexpensive AXA HR Traction I installed
on a friend's bike:

Nevertheless it is always in the Bausch & Muller catalog. See

http://www.bumm.de

under the name DYMOTEC 6

Where do I find a price list for these items in the States, please?

Lewis.

Your best bet is likely just doing a direct purchase from someone that
ships internationally such as SJS cycles and using their prices
plugged into a currency exchanger of your choice.

Peter White has a limited selection of fine quality dynamos and is US
based--He seems like the go-to guy if you need a Norte America based
bike dynamo problem solution. And perhaps some mild smartassery if you
read between the lines of his website.

I was recently shopping for a B&M mirror, and was so moved by his
whining about how hard it was to take my money over the Web, that I
did him a favor and bought from some place in Nashville...

You don't. You need to order from Europe.

B&M is still going strong in the dynamo light market. They have just
released their new new 60 lux Lumotech IQ Cyo. I don't believe at all
that B&M have discontinued the Dymotec 6 since it is in their new 2009
catalogue
Perhaps Peter White didn't sell enough of them to bother stocking
them.

AXA are said to be OK, not B&M quality stuff, but cheaper.

Andrew Muzi will sell you a dynamo and light without whining:
<http://www.yellowjersey.org/manylite.html>. The last time I checked,
Wisconsin was still part of North America. ;)
