I suppose the group went on that awful route to Moraga again while I did 27 miles to the top of Cull Canyon and back. Instead of taking the longer route over the closed section of Lake Chabot Road, I went over Fairmont hill. The total climbing is almost the same but Fairmont has a mile long 8 or 9% climb whereas there is one little 9% section and then several lesser climbs to achieve the same overall climbing.

By the time I

had gotten to Cull Canyon it was misting heavily enough to be called rain. The road was wet and then underneath the trees it would be dry but most of the route is in the open. I was early enough that traffic was nearly non-existent. By the top of the dead end canyon, the road had puddles all over it and if it weren't all climbing I would have been cold. The weather report had said nothing about rain today so I was dressed only part way to conditions. At the coffee stop I got an Apple Fritter the size of my hand and it took me a half hour to consume. As I arrived at the donut shop it started raining LARGE drops so I took everything but the bike in with me.

It slowed down to just enough to feel by the time I left the donut shop. I went over Fairmont Hill just to double check the added climbing and will test the other route for climbing again on Thursday. The one thing that really bothers me is that my "improvement' is all in not feeling bad at the end of the ride. My speed or rate of climb is not changing at all. Just my endurance is improving but very slowly.
