Columbia police are searching for a man who robbed a bank this morning
and then fled on a mountain bike on Gervais Street.
No one was injured in the robbery, which took place about 10:30 a.m.
at the RBC Bank at 701 Gervais St., officials said.
A man entered the bank and presented a note to a teller demanding
money, according to the police department. In the note, he claimed he
had a weapon, but no weapon was seen, officials said.
The man then fled on a dark-colored mountain bike with an undisclosed
amount of money and was traveling west on Gervais Street, officials
said.
The suspect is described as a 35 to 45-year-old black man , about 6-
feet tall, thin build. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, dark-
colored fleece style vest over a white sweatshirt, dark-colored gloves
and white tennis shoes.
He was also wearing a surgical type cap over a light colored nit
stoking cap and duck tape over his face, according to a press release.
Anyone with information about the bank robber is asked to call
Crimestoppers at (888) 274-6372.
Yes, the trend is that you report on lawbreakers that
use a certain tool in their illegal activities.
How about reporting on burglars who rely on slim-jims?
Not all do, I'm sure.
