Turns out "maverick" means "liar"

MCCain Revealed on CNN has John McCain backpeddling when caught in a
lie about the difference between the court records and his
autobiography...

When John King confronted him McCain seemed a bit like ex-enron head
Ken Lay…

“what….. huh… that was a long time ago… I don’t really quite
remember… ooops I think I need to change my diapers again… CINDY! “

http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2008/revealed.mccain.obama/

Turns out today, Sarah "Awe Shucks" Palin has a 17 year old daughter 5
months pregnant and that the baby with downs syndrome might have been
the teenagers also.

Truth? Credibility? Decision process? Responsibility? Those are the
core values.

This is not about the fact that teenagers make bad decisions, they do
everyday.

It's an even sadder commentary that you use the term "Swiftboat Vets"

Maybe, maybe not. During their convention last week the Democrats
disappeared a guy for cheating on his wife with a younger blonde; this
week, the Republicans are going to be nominating a guy who did the
same.

> Want to bet some real money on the election?

I won't bet you. Not because I don't think the dems won't win but like
a typical republicunt you will do a back room deal that takes the
money from others (Arabs, purveyors of war, oil related, etc) and
pass your debt to our children and grandchildren.

We already know how republicans deal with "REAL MONEY"

Look at Bush's and the Republicans fiscal record: Four simple facts:

1. Tripled the trade deficit to $800 billion
2. Took a $237 billion dollar surplus budget and ran it down to a
negative $400 billion in just 4 short years.
3. Ran the national debt up to $9.1 trillion
4. And managed to take the dollar to post WWII lows against a basket
of world currencies.

Republicans crimes against the Constitution and Geneva convention are
well documented too numerous too mention.

The numbers of lies and obfuscations by the administartion are well
document and too numerous too mention.

And the number of sexual perversions by republicans and members of the
christian movement are well documented and too numerous too mention.

What thinking person would even try to defend these assholes? (Even
if they were hard wired to think that way themselves.) Just shut up
Kunich and stop demonstrating your ignorance. Maybe we will forget how
friggin looney you are in a few years.

Got to give Obama credit for this bit:

Obama 'offended' by Palin rumor claims
Quoted:

"I hope I am as clear as I can be. So in case I am not, let me repeat,
we don't go after people's families, we don't get them involved in the
politics. It is not appropriate and it is not relevant," Obama told
reporters in Michigan.

"Our people were not involved in any way in this and they will not be,
and if I ever thought it was somebody in the campaign that was
involved in something like that they would be fired."

Obama also noted that his late mother had given birth to him when she
was only 18.

"I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories. How
a family deals with issues and teenage children that shouldn't be the
topic of our politics and I hope that anybody who is supporting me
understands that is off limits."

Looks like the holier than thou, and much more moral than us folks

Nice firm statement.

Note that Palin believes that certain family issues that arise out of
similar situatons are an area for politics: if she had her way every
17-year-old who got pregnant would give birth. No choice about it.

She and many others believe that abortion is murder, is murder a
choice? Given the younger and younger age that fetuses are viable with
today's medical care where does that move the line on it being a human
being?
I'm pro-choice but I'm very concious of what that means. I here a ton
of denial of those things from other pro choice folks.
I'm not any bigger a fan of the christers and their sanctimony
either, and I don't see them putting up the money and care to provide
decent, loving, lives for all those children they want born to term.
The lives many, many of kids live today is at least as big an evil
IMO as abortion so I can grudgingly live with it. The anti-choice
folks need to provide decent concrete options, not just theology.
I don't use anti-abortion because know of VERY few folks in favor of
it, and they are nutcases of the first water. Slandering people as
"pro" abortion is sleazy at best. Murderer is an opinion though, and
still in debate in the courts, and ethics circles.
This is one with NO good answer and in serious need of respect and
decency from both sides.

You know Coulter and Malkin would be foaming on it. The real problem
and question is who started it? This is where the "unnamed source"
shit is garbage. It could've been someone from Obama's campaign. It
could've been someone from McCains dirty tricks folks, or it could
have just been some conspiracy nutjob who took some time of the

To the credit of the folks at DKos many of them raised exactly this
point, and were concerned with running with rumor as fact, and the
backlash if it turned out to be so.

I think the Republicans are in too deep to back
out now. Having chosen Palin to appeal to the
mom vote, if they dump her in favor of one of
the other possibilities (nearly all rich white guys)
because of something her kid did, it will alienate
the people they were trying to appeal to. It would
also reinforce the idea that anything that happens
in a family is mom's fault, which would be
unfortunate. Let them have their sudden embrace
of tolerance.

Yeah, yeah, you're more independent, more thoughtful, etc etc. You
also have a perverse need to diss people who vote the same way you do
on issues. If you lived in a state where your vote mattered a lot on
issues like that, it'd seem like you're undermining what you believe
in in terms of the ways elections go.

JT I wrote a long response and trashed it because it's flogging a
dead horse.
I wish I could get everything from one party. Unfortunately a lot of
things that are important to me are seriously opposed by the hardcore
of each party in turn. In a swing State I'd probably vote for the
party opposite that controlling, or projected to control Congress.
If I was absolutely forced to vote for one of these two I'd vote
Obama at this point and then fight like hell to limit the damage to
things I care about while encouraging him to fix the things I support
in his platform.
I don't think he's crazy enough to unilaterally expand the war into
Pakistan like he keeps insisting he's going to, but if he does I sure
as hell hope he's ready for all hell to break loose, and will fight
that by throwing out the rules, because it's gonna take that, and then
some to go get BinLaden and his supporters, and protectors in
Pakistans intelligence service. I'm betting that's rhetoric.
I'm betting that 95% of his platform is rhetoric too because it is
totally different from just about every vote he's made, and position
he's taken in the past. Even his supporters on the left are getting
anxious about this new "centrist" Obama. I don't think they have
enything to worry about. Maybe I'm just paranoid because GWB turned
out to be a lieing sack of shit and he really has changed his
positions, but things keep coming out that make me doubt it.

Funny thing that people talking about Bosco's Billions never seem to be able
to find that positive cash flow in the national debt. Could it be that the
only positive flow was in your imagination and among the tricks played by
the Clinton money launderers when they used a lot of non-reported bills?

In case you missed it - conservative Republicans have complained about Bush
almost from the start. The interesting point here is that the Republican

Democrat Party when the extreme Liberal Clinton's came into power. So we're
really dealing with the Democrats East and the Democrats West instead of

This is working out well this way isn't it? Holding it back plays to
"it's none of the governement's business to mess with families"
rhetoric. Of course that only goes for "traditional" families of
course. As long as the kid is going to term, and getting married to
the dad then this can and is being painted as how everyone should deal
with these "unfortunate issues that will happen even in the best
families sometimes."
Has no bearing on the reality a lot of people are living where that
just isn't a possibility in a broken society.

Reading the x-tian conservative hardcore stuff I really think they
thought it would be somewhere between, not an issue, and a good one.
Almost everything I'm seeing is about the energized, and finally on
board far right. Looks like lots of the folks who were going to sit
this one out are now on board, and Limbaugh campaigning for her was a
huge factor IMO. Now he's on board too which McCain had to have.
I think this was actually a very well thought out, and vetted choice
by the campaign to appease the "base" without actually adding someone
of major substance that disagrees with McCain. If they lose, this will
set her up well as a future star unless she pulls a Dan Quayle, and
that's pretty doubtful from what I'm reading.

I went to Guerneville today with my wife. We were confronted with
Obama signs everywhere with the implicit implication that "we vote
Obama here." I was pretty sure that if I brought up the secret ballot

Yeah, well, I'm sure there's a way of spinning this in some way such
that it shows how evil Obama truly is. Because he IS, you know? From a
certain warped perspective.

Any of the people that get anywhere close to the Presidency are at the
top of the bell curve in their chosen field. While it's reasonable to
recognize that top notch morality is not what's needed to get them
there, it's also important to recognize that being consistently stupid
or evil would stop them in their tracks.

I would suggest that we all recognize that McCain and Obama are both
good people who are doing their best. Same for Biden and Palin. I'm not
naive enough to believe that anyone would listen. Too many people enjoy
the drama of political theater too much to pass on it.

No not in any sense. I'm just as hidebound, and militant about what I

different conclusion. That can be based on a million totally valid

Wiseass maybe.
I'm sure it gets really tedious, and I don't relate shit back to my

Hell, you and a bunch of other folks here have met me. Pretty hard to

A number of years ago we had a ride that started there and climbed all the
way to the moon. Then in pouring rain and fog so thick that you couldn't see
more than 20 feet on the bike, no shoulders on the roads, and traffic coming
by at 60 mph in that sort of visibility we descended to Highway 1 and
finally made it back into Guerneville where we first saw a big sign across
the road "Gay Pride Celebrations". As we got into town and tried to put
everything into the cars and get out of there, gays were having sex in the
bushes next to the cars, in the adjacent park, and all over town in the
open!

Robert, This is a good general story on what I'm seeing:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/01/palin.evangelicals/index.html

By Rebecca Sinderbrand
CNN

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (CNN) -- Key evangelical leaders rallied to Sarah
Palin's support Monday amid news that her 17-year-old daughter,
Bristol, was having a child.

Sarah Palin confirmed Monday that her 17-year-old daughter is
pregnant.

"Before, they were excited about her, with the Down syndrome baby,"
conservative, anti-tax activist Grover Norquist said. "But now with
this, they are over the moon. It reinforces the fact that this family
lives its pro-life values."

<<bunch snipped>>

Speculation by some on blogs that Palin's son Trig was actually
Bristol's child had led to outrage among conservatives.

Any comment by Democrats that is viewed as remotely critical could
make both Sarah and Bristol Palin appear to be sympathetic victims of
a political vendetta.

By Monday afternoon, evangelical leaders were circling the wagons.

"The media are already trying to spin this as evidence Gov. Palin is a
'hypocrite,' but all it really means is that she and her family are
human," Dobson said. "They are in my prayers and those of millions of
Americans."

the fact that the flight attendents said that they saw no evidence she was pregnant.
That and the fact that the daughter had been missing from school for some time. It

A) The swift boat vets where deplorably dishonest.

or:

B) John McCain was an unwitting dupe of the Kerry campaign:

Yeah, I'm not doubting that this is what you're seeing. I'm simply
saying that it's post hoc spin. If it weren't, they would have
championed it earlier; or else the daughter would've married her

When she ran for governor of Alaska in 2006, Sarah Palin was asked if
she would support abstinence-before-marriage programs over sex
education, school clinics and contraceptive distribution. She was firm
in her answer: "Explicit sex ed programs will not find my support."

Lets beat this yet again, and you could google it up. Liberals are NOT
evil, never have been. They've done massive amounts of good things
which are well documented, anything else is BS. I have problems with
the current definition of "liberal" when they support silencing debate
on campuses due to politics. Banning speech because it's offensive.
Attempting to strip any trace of God from our governmental system,
like removing "In God We Trust" from the dollar bill and banning
moments of silence4 in school, and stopping voluntary prayer.
Those are NOT traditional liberal positions IMO those are the folks,
along with the extremist, anti-military, anti gun, anarchist fringe.
It's very possible to reasonably be all of those to a degree IMO but,
like the Conservatives they've got their large hardcore who IS there
that's too far out for me.
This is in NO way a defense of those "conservative" folks. That's
another discussion.
Both you andd TK tell me my views are all over the place, bizarre,
and don't follow anyone's platform. I'm amused by that, and they are
what they are.
Summing them up is pretty simple. America is supposed to be the "land
of opportunity" so we need to make sure everyone has a chance, and
that means decent basic education, and access to higher education for
those who choose it. Basic, decent housing and health support so
healthy children have a place to live and a chance to learn.
Protection from predatory criminals for the same reasons and so they
have the freedom to function.
America is based on freedom. That needs to be protected, but also
requires massive responsibility from it's people too. Decent, civil
behavior first and foremost. People aren't free if they are being
preyed on. That's why criminals need to be removed, and wether we kill
them or warehouse them is open to debate, but they need to be off the
streets. Not all folks who screw up are going to be "criminals" so
almost all first, and maybe even second offenders, depending, need
access to real rehab programs, medical and mental health care,
education, etc...Just getting a base under society would prevent a lot
of these folks from getting into the system in the first place IMO
too, but that doesn't mean a free ride for life either.
That said the key is to provide as much freedom to people as
possibly, and that means free from government interference too. That
means guaranteed control of your property with incredibly limited
interference unless your rights conlicted, directly with anothers.
Then it would go into the courts. We fail miserably at that. Unlike
Greg I'm willing to fund the goverment by taxes for the stuff we do
need. Oversight of commerce should be in the criminal realm. Speech
should not be banned because someone might react violently to it, that
seems to be the current liberal standard. The person reacting
violently should have better control. This is a gateway to silence
anything you don't like by "acting out". It's pure intimidation. It
was used for way too long against freedom for all and civil rights
here. I don't want it back but it's growing.
Then we could go into individual issues but they would be under the
basic principles, and some are impossible, such as abortion.
This basic philosophy seems to put me at odds with just about
everyone today. I'm comfortable with the basic principles. I'm totally
uncomfortable with all the details and they keep changing based on
what happens out in the world. I think everyone who's not a sheep does
what I do and the results may very well differ wildly. That doesn't
make my positions any more concretely correct than anyone elses. It
depends on what you value, and prioritize.

This is typical of the wackjob end of the conservatives. I got this
this morning, and Limbaugh, Dobson, and others were working like hell
for her long before the pick. With them it was her, or Huckabee pretty
much.

http://www.theconservativevoice.com/articles/article.html?id=34213

I don't think McCain picked her happily, but it's his best option from
a Machieavellian standpoint. Obama's lack of experience allows this to
be a viable pick, along with Carter and Clinton's lack of credentials
going in too.
Long history of minimally qualified Presidential, let alone vice-
presidential candidates.
As for this being cause to jettison her I don't see it. Bill Clinton
had much more baggage from a "moral" standpoint coming in and dem's
didn't give a shit. The conservatives are, usually, screwed by their
hypocrisy though. It's amazing who they are willing to forgive, and
who they aren't.
I have a huge problem with her on sex-ed, as long as there is a
parental opt out for the class, but I have a huge problem with those
who don't want abstinence taught either. All options need to be
available for kids and standard sex ed doesn't need to start out "We
KNOW you're going to have sex" which some do.

The idea that blocking education, and condom availability is going to
prevent ALL sex is moronic. It just forces some kids into unprotected
sex. It may prevent some kids, but it sure as hell isn't a real
barrier to a horny teenage male. Sometimes you have to limit the
damage from what you can't prevent. People who are morally and
ethically opposed shouldn't be forced into providing these services
though, any more than anti-war teachers should be forced to aid
recruiting efforts. They should be allowed to step aside and have it
done by someone else.

Nah, just a force of nature. I think females still retain the ability
to use their brains, for the most part, during those years and aren't
quite as bad. Also the consequences for them are immediate, and severe
where for lots of guys there aren't many.

The idea that the schools should teach something that is a parent's
responsibility is even more moronic. The very fact that people would suggest
that schools SHOULD teach such things is completely beyond reason and those
that don't understand it are making a complete statement of their mental
abilities right there.

Bill, lesbians aren't ANYTHING like male homosexuals. They have completely
different motivations for the most part. And it shows in the way they act.

Tom I'd agree if this wasn't a huge public health issue, and parenting
failure. It falls under basic health education IMO, but, and this is a
huge but, parents should have the right to opt their kids out with NO
questions asked, or repercussions of any sort. I'd rather pay for the
health classes than unwanted kids, or abortions with my taxes. Either
way we are going to pay.

If you are talking about Kerry's service in Vietnam, there weren't
anywhere close to 200 guys (the Swift Boat Veterans for "truth"
actually ended up with 255 members) who could attest to it, as most of
thse guys didn't so much as see Kerry in Vietnam, and only a mere
handful went out on operations with him.

Would that be "right" or "wrong?" What is "proper?" Who is to
administer it "properly" and why? (By what power/right/privilege?)

Side note: There is a "necessary and proper" clause in the US
constitution. "_And_" and "_proper_" got back-doored out of
existence. "_Necessary_" came to mean "_sufficient_." It was
supposed to be a high barrier to power. That is why it had to go.

So I like to ask what "proper" means. It usually means one person/
group imposing their values on others by threat of (violent) force.

Dumbass,

They also hope to get "middle-of-the-road" women, and maybe even men.
It was to shore up _both sides_ of appeal. Maybe it will work. I
dunno, but it was a pretty bold move, which I like in bike races.

Who-the-fuck is qualified? Let's see,... you got three fucking
senators {snooze-fest losers} -- one of which has about 18 months of
experience -- and an 18 month guvner. Palin is the only one who seems
to be much of an outsider. The other three are die-hard statists.

Quality margin so far goes to: Republicans.

Regardless of your feelings one way or the other, the federal guvmint
has zero power to say or do squat about abortion. It is left to the
people of the states. This is the law of the land. Anti-
constitutional rulings are not law, they have the mere procedural look
of law. They are an abomination.

>

First: Get the guvmint to abide by its own laws -- constrain it to be
within the limits of its powers.
Second: Determine if a proposed statute, or any kind of existing law,
squares with justice.

Statutes pose greater risk in violating justice, as they are broad in
scope. I prefer customary law first, then common law, and last,
statute law.

"A just law is a man made code that squares with the moral law or the
law of God. An unjust law is a code that is out of harmony with the
moral law. To put it in the terms of St. Thomas Aquinas: an unjust law
is a human law that is not rooted in eternal law and natural law. Any
law that uplifts human personality is just. Any law that degrades
human personality is unjust." -- Martin Luther King, 'Letters from
Birmingham jail'

Neither do I believe that any of the 4 people on the 2 tickets are
"evil," as some sort of _intentional plot_ or conspiracy. The badness
comes (in _part_) from the nature of politics itself, for which the
polity itself holds some "responsibility." I mean to say, the
politicians play to the audience; and who can blame them for that, for
that is the definition of what they do. They do what the polity "sez"
works.

A danger lies in "the good" that a politician believes they can do;
where they _intend_ to actually do good. This is where they do not
understand the actual and complete effects of their actions. This is
where their actions unjustifiably affect others, in ways they will not
acknowledge or notice. The cause-of-effects can be difficult to
disentangle, thus handing a free ticket to the politician.

I do not mean to say that by today's sensibilities, that particular
actions of some politicians (yesterday and today) cannot be condemned,
they can. This is not to say that corruption won't take place: it
will. But I cannot say this about any of the candidates, as of yet.
I think they believe they are "doing good."

I believe that the effects of statist ideology are largely in the
negative. Therefore, the more statist the ideology, the more I
dislike it, and the more I call it "evil."

Since socialism cannot survive without statism, and socialism is
inherently unjust and anti-progress, I hate socialism. The democratic
party are essentially fabian socialists. Therefore, I strongly
dislike the democratic platform, and disapprove of any such candidate,
since they must inevitably carry the platform. The republican party
is about two steps behind, which makes them only marginally better,
but better is better.

The democrats rejoice at GWB, since he single-handedly destroyed the
branding of the republican party, as at least marginally better than
the democrats. I mean this when it comes to people like me, who
believe that power (guvmint), if it must exist, must be sharply
constrained. (That is, I want the /promise/ of the constitution of
_limited guvmint_ to be fulfilled, or else do away with the guvmint.)

The "Obama is evil" shorthand is explained by the syllogism:

Syllogism:
1. Socialism is evil.
2. Obama is a socialist.
3. Obama is therefore evil.

lol. See how easy I make it?

Call it what you want, but the effect on the ground, backed by the
force of the federal government makes it happen, if they so choose. An
abomination isn't any better than a horrible law.
You pay your taxes, right. Why, because the government has the force
to do what they want, and use it. As you said the Constitution is what
the current crop of ideologues hand picked for their activist
positions says it is, not what the documentation, and tradition says
it is.
Noone gives a shit. The ACLU's hypocrisy hit a high spot with hte
Heller decision when they said we don't think that's what the
Constitution meant so we aren't going to change our activities.
They're not about guaranteeing constitutional rights except as they
see them, not the as the highest court says they are.

Man, those Machiavellian plans are getting better and better. Bristol
Palin's baby daddy (think Fox is going to describe him that way?) is

Doubt it was planned, but it's quick on their feet scrambling to take
advantage of the situation. Looking more and more like Kurgan, and You

I believe they talked to her and a few other insiders of hers, but I

The boy's mother, Sherry Johnston, said there had been no pressure put
on her son to marry 17-year-old Bristol Palin and the two teens had
made plans to wed before it was known she was pregnant.

"This is just a bonus," Johnston said.

I'm sure they will though.

When the Democrats finish framing Palin as an evil, incompetent bitch,
we'll have people like YOU to thank for it. People like YOU have proven
that these hateful smear tactics WORK. On morons, maybe, but work
nonetheless.

Why are you calling John McCain liar? His opinion that the Swift Boat
vets were full of crap is on firm ground:
http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Swift_Boat_Veterans_for_Truth
http://abcnews.go.com/Nightline/print?id=166434

John McCain and I agree. John McCain says your beliefs and thought
processes are "dishonest and dishonorable". He is absolutely correct.

John McCain is not the left wing nut job you think he is. He just has a
thing called "integrity". Go look it up.

You state that it's not possible to get 200 people to agree to untrue
crap in an election year. That's not a credible claim. You claim that
everyone except Kerry agreed with the Swift Boat vets. Completely false.

Now watch what happens to Palin. Don't complain, because it's guys like
you that make these vicious lying attacks work. It's this way because
you like it this way.

He can put on Beavis and Butthead during the romance dance:

Engelbert Humperdinck - Lesbian Seagull Lyrics - Beavis And Butthead

Over rocks and trees and sand
Soaring over cliffs
And gently floating down to land
She proudly lifts her voice
To sound her mating call
And soon her mate responds by singing
Caw Caw Caw
Come with me

Lesbian Seagull

Settle down and rest with me

Fly with me lesbian seagull

To my little nest by the sea
With me that's where you belong with me
I know I can be strong when you're with me
She skims the water
At the new time to seek
Her fish and she emerges
With one squirming in her beak

She plays among the waves
And hides between the swells
She walks the beach at twilight

Searching for some shells
Come with me

Lesbian Seagull

Settle down and rest with me

Oh fly with me lesbian seagull

To my little nest by the sea

With me that's where you belong with me
I know I can be strong when you're -- you're with me

And in the evening
As they watch the setting sun
She loooks at her as if to say
The day is done
It's time to find their shelter

Hidden in the dunes

And fall asleep the
Music of the moon
You and me

Lesbian seagull

You just watch the world oh my

Just you and me lesbian seagull

Side by side with me 'till we die
('Till we die)
You and I
We can make it if we try
Our love will keep us flyin' high

Until we die...

I don't believe successful politicians have ideologies. I believe they
have allies. It has worked out about the same, in the end. I'm not sure
it's going to stay that way. The days of Democrats representing the
Unions and Repubs representing big business are long gone. There are
more factions in play now. Dems and Repubs both have a loose
confederation of special interest groups they appeal to. If society
fractures into yet more groups clamoring for a political voice, ideology
will become even more passe.

Holy shit! According to that McCain married a Rush Limbaugh type:

"In 1994, the senator's wife, Cindy McCain, acknowledged her battle
with an addiction to prescription painkillers. Among her revelations
was that she had diverted -- for her personal use -- drugs that were
intended for a medical charity she ran. The charity helped poor and
disadvantaged children around the world.

The Arizona Republic, McCain's hometown newspaper, published an
editorial cartoon that showed Cindy McCain stealing medication from
the mouth of a poor infant. "I thought that that cartoon was
gratuitous and obviously offensive," John McCain told CNN"

So besides being a whore who "dates" married men, Cindy McCain is a
pill-popping thief. Typical Republican...

I think I'll bag this ass:

children."

"Details Emerge About Levi Johnston, Teen Father At Center Of Bristol
Palin Pregnancy Controversy"

Sounds like typical Republican trailer trash. Hey S__T- do you live

McCain is famous for telling a dirty joke about Chelsea Clinton when
she was 18 years old.
That's "Family Values" Republican-style.

Palin's daughter should be off limits, as Chelsea Clinton should have
been to John McCain. But Palin's mothering of her daughter and the
ineffectiveness of her "just teach abstinence" opinion are fair game.
These people set themselves up as paragons of virtue, and they want to
force their "morality" on us. Look how well it works.

Exactly. Let them reap what they sow. John McCain told a dirty joke
about Chelsea Clinton in 1998 at a Republican Senate fund-raiser.
