I'm looking for a link that will explain cycle racing terms such as
jump, jam, shoot, kick, etc. Road terms are first prio, but I won't say
no if someone has a link to track as well.
Have any of you seen such a page on the web, if so I'd be grateful if
you could
pls post the link toit.
/Robert
Sorry, those are hunting terms.
HTH,
jj
Hunting, in a metaphorical sense!
Shooting, as in a series of short attacks designed to put 2-3 bike
lengths between yourself and the rest of the peloton.
Looking also for definitions that show the difference between jumping
and kicking (I think kicking is more applicable for the last km), we'll
see if someone comes up with a good glossary ... /R
I think this sounds like a good idea, but I'm not sure a comprehensive
glossary of racing slang is out there.
For someone with a science background, I think the cycling usage of the
words "strength" and "speed" can be confusing, but you will get the idea
in context.
A lot of this may be regional as well, and some may become archaic.
For example, does anyone other than Phil Liggett use "on the rivet"?
I don't here the expression "I didn't have the 'suds'" nearly often enough!

Yes. Old guys (like me) who started racing when some saddles still had
rivets on the nose to hold the leather in place. It's a great, but
perhaps archaic, term. Like "steel," "banana," and "toe strap."
